I thought it was bad for MTL, but then better when they traded further for Dach.

That D core is set and can move the puck.

Now move out Bailey and you have room to add a top 6 forward.

honestly? i'm not mad about this trade at all. we needed a young LD and we got one. i think he's going to be pretty solid here. realistically, at 13OA you're picking a guy who's probably got the same ceiling but is a few years younger, this just accelerates the timeline.

I would have just oversheetedfor Sandin… imo he’s a way better player and would have cost far far less. Romanov for the 13oa + seems crazy to me

Maybe I haven’t watched enough of Romanov but he seems fairly average and at 13oa you can generally get a really talented player esp in this deep draft

i would also have done this instead but alas no one ever offer sheets anyone. i feel like GMs need to just start really doing it again, if it became super common then people wouldn't really see it as this retaliatory thing.

it's absolutely nuts. Romanov has barely looked like a 2nd pair guy in montreal during his best runs. but he's big and he hits

i feel like the general perception is that this isn't that deep of a draft? i had guys i liked at 13 obviously (i will wistfully think of what could have been if they'd drafted frank nazar while i cheer for him at michigan next year) but they want to compete next year, so getting a guy who can play on your 2nd pair right now but is still only 22 and has room to grow works for me.

Yeah it’s like he already had a stud at LSD (Toews) weird enough they got less for him

Really? Wright was the #4 oa. Idk I think this draft is really deep.

Makes way more sense at the 3.5-4.1m level bc they cost is pretty cheap compared to what teams are giving up now days.

so true, feels like using the 3.5-4.1 compensation tier to steal young talent that hasn't broken out yet but has the chance to would be the best use of it and if it happened a lot people would adjust and it'd be interesting, plus give pre-arb guys more leverage and agency. it's really a shame it doesn't happen more.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of the trade but I can live with it, Romanov has a pretty good two way impact

Just a younger TJ Brodie who TOR has on their top pair. Lou definitely overpaid , but Romanov is a good player.
