With the cap increase MacKinnon should get McDavid contract. Basically 100 million at 8 years.

That is a paycut given his recent performance.

I want some Habs reporter do a similar kind of tweet, like

Lane Hutson is a very short human. Juraj Slafkovsky looks like a f*cking tower next to him.

I think the idea of similar is inflated because we compare 8 years to 7 years at the same AAV. But if that AAV is 10, that’s TEN MILLION DOLLARS you’re leaving on the table. That’s literally more than most people make in their entire lives, and more than enough to set up your entire family for generations, and you’re leaving that extra money on the table… for a slightly shorter trip home during holidays? There’s a reason hockey players aren’t businessmen, and every time they make stupid decisions like this just reinforces that.

You realize 10m us actually only like 4m back to the player...if that.

I think more

He should go 13 x 8yrs becoming the most expensive player till Matthews 14.69m x 8 year extension

And would anyone argue hes not worth it. At times in the playoffs he was the main reason that they were able to keep the run going

Really blows my mind why guys care about that if they actually like their current home. Like you’re richer than god. You can spend 3 months of the year wherever you want, and then retire at 35 and spend all your time there. Why is it so important to be within a 4 hour drive of home (sacrificing money in their prime) when you can afford to fly there whenever you want anyway? Or afford to fly your family to you lol? Did these guys forget they have money?

He also might not want to live in Calgary. I do agree that "going home" is overrated. However I feel like there is more to it than money and location. Gaudreau had the best season of his career last year and the Flames still got eliminated in the second round. I don't see them being able to get further than that. If he is still thinking about taking 80M+ from Calgary, he likely isn't committed to the Flames

I’ll be hella sad if that’s his real reason. It would mean he’s been lying through his teeth for years.

As a consolation prize; if Johnny leaves Timmy Peel says the Oilers on a 5 year or the Flames are the front runners for Evander Kane.

I think Kane’s goal is to stay in the Pacific to spite the Sharks lol.

Oh no, only 4mil in post-tax dollars. Whatever will I do with this life-changing amount of money

Its kind of funny though when you do the little itty bitty maths how a guy making 11mill in Canada and a guy making 8 mill in Florida in the end once taxes come into play make almost the same amount of money

But hey in the end once all things are filed in they leave with Millions so I dont think they care yet people cry one guy is making more than the other without realizing once taxes come into play both are making about the same lul

The thing is, he has said repeatedly for years that he likes living in Calgary. Sometimes unprompted. So that would just suck all around. And I feel like you’re underselling the Flames. Markstrom had the worst week of his season against the Oilers, but he was consistently a high level goalie for most of the rest of the year, and we can essentially run it back with the same group that was seen as a top 3 cup favourite and the second best chance of winning the West (plus Colorado’s maybe taking a slight step back next year).

I dislike Tim Peel and everything he says. He was a terrible ref and needs to stay in his lane, which should be never getting noticed, except maybe to provide clarity on the rules that he doesn’t know and didn’t enforce.

That said, Kane + a centre (Trocheck or one of the Stromes, Kadri would be too expensive on top of Kane although I’d like him too, maybe Kadri+Marchment) wouldn’t be a terrible consolation prize, and might be the only way to stay relevant. But I feel like if Gaudreau walks, we aren’t gonna win free agency like that.

This was debunked anyway. A good accountant will get you 300k per million (after tax, escrow, etc.) no matter where you play in the league. And regardless, an extra year at 10mil pre-tax income is an insanely large sum of money. Like it’s unfathomable for a normal person. That one year could cause him to choose a random family member and say hey, you never have to work a day in your life even if you mismanage this sum of money and don’t invest it or anything. The whole taking a pay cut thing is such a stupid part of hockey culture. Everyone deserves to be fairly compensated for their work. And you’re only putting more money in the pockets of billionaires (who are certainly not taking a pay cut of any kind, ever) if you’re a pro athlete taking a pay cut.

it’s a funny coincidence that SevenLeg hated the Slaf pick but SevenLegg likes Slaf crushing dev camp - wonder if they’re related?

If this Dubois thing is correct, that Sevenlegg with two gg's will be bragging even harder than DucharmeTheDominator with the Lehkonen trade.

The Sharks have over 20 skaters and that’s without including Eklund, Bords, Knyzhov (probably starting in the AHL)….

This team needs to make some trades and move Labanc.
I mean we have a enough cap space for Ferraro, Kahkonen but our moves are clearly planning for something in free agency yet we have like a dozen wingers lying around.
