Miller

Description
Extension should not age too poorly per Dom's model. Year 6 might be a little rough, but the cap should also go up substantially by then: https://imgur.com/0Diq0DD

I believe it's a fair return for the Canucks, though please chime in if this is not enough. For the Jackets, trading Jack hurts but by keeping Gus instead, we keep the more defensive forward who is also a pending UFA, making the Miller extension very reasonable.

Also, look at that top PP unit.

Value is fair, but I think Jackets decline considering they would have potential cap issues after next season. If they hadn't signed Gudbranson (Gaudreau seems justifiable), I'd consider.

Cap situation is actually pretty good. 18.5M - 8.5M for Miller leaves 10M with the only big extension being Gavrikov and maybe Texier if he breaks out.

Canucks would be very satisfied.
Many cite CBJ isn’t ready for a push where as I think they are. Prospect depth is very nice.

Tbh if we can get a package like this one I'd prefer that. Fits our timeline much better.

I hope Columbus doesn't jump the gun and make a move like this, the Bjorkstrand trade still makes me want to... 🤮

That’s what they said about Gaudreau too. Maybe he’ll take less to come to Columbus to play “closer to home.”

Pains me to say this, but if the ask really was a first and a prospect like one of their top three (or Sillinger) to move cap, then I can accept it cost of Bjorkstrand. I still hate it, but I can accept it more easily. It'll be interesting to see what teams have to do as they get desperate closer to training camp, and how well teams like Anaheim and Arizona make out in charging to take on cap dumps.

Yeah but I would rather get this than resign him if that’s the case, he would go somewhere with more salary, he would play with gaudreau and Laine and he would be closer to home, although is he is technically from Pittsburg but still.

Definitely would be tough to re-sign him. If he signs for $8.5 mil they would be left with about $7.4 mil for their ufas and rfas. I don't see them being able to keep Gavrikov and Texier with that little space left. Either Gavy is being traded elsewhere or allowed to walk or Texier would have to be worked into the deal or Voracek would have to be traded with assets to make cap space.

It's 18.5M if you trade Roslovic and let Nyquist walk. -8.5M so have 10M for Gavy, Tex etc.

Forgot I had Peeke already signed in the one I put together. Still though, I only see $9.6 mil to re-sign Gavy, Tex, Peeke and one more player to get to a 23 man roster. I think they'd end up 2-3 mil over the cap again if it optimistically goes up to 84 mil. If it only goes up to 83.5 then they're down to 9.1 in space.

How much are you signing them to? I think we'll be fine since only Gavy is a UFA. Jarmo usually gets good deals on RFAs.

5, 3.5 and 2.25 are what I'm estimating for Gavi, Tex and Peeke. Then one more player at 900k would put them 2.05 over. Guess it will just come down to how they perform this year and what Jarmo can work out.

Ahh I see. I have it at 4.5x4, 2.5x2, and 1.5x2. But regardless I think we would have the same approach to Miller as we would Johnny. If you can get a player like that, you figure the rest out later. Worst case scenario Tex/Peeke are signed to QOs
