I believe a fair assumption would be that Winnipeg is on everyone's "no" list. Start there and look for exceptions like the player or wife is from Manitoba or something like that.

Being healthy general helps a lot towards fixing things like this. That Karlsson trade is just absurd

Agreed 100%. With the healthy part...Vegas as a healthy team is easily a playoff squad, IMO. Appleton literally just re-signed, so I can't imagine that's even a thought, and Kerfoot getting more than Bjorkstrand makes me believe that the OP is a Leafs fan...

@ledge_and_dairy: Vegas staying healthy certainly didn't age well...Lehner reportedly out for the entire season...

Dallas does not have the cap space.

Every dollar of remaining cap space is going to Oettinger and Robertson. Even if Dallas had the cap space, they aren't trading for a 3rd goalie (Stars also have Wedgewood) that costs north of $2M

TOR accepts, although you could probably get away with just sending BUF's 2023 3rd.

If they can ship Brossoit out, why would they need more space? They don't really need too much more space even without shipping him out. Some league min deals on the 3rd line and they are set.

Toronto declines. Here’s a crazy idea, they move Muzzin or Holl. Kerfoot doesn’t need to be moved. Leafs have a lot of options.

I agree with this. As a Leaf I don't know why the main narrative is to trade Kerfoot ... 3.5M for 50 points ... but that seems to be what is discussed online.

Maybe you can move Holl, but you'll get more value out of Kerfoot.

Muzzin has a NTC, and very few contending teams have space for his contract for the next two years. Kerfoot is owed minimal salary this year which will be a selling point.

Muzzin to ARZ/ANA/BUF just won't work.

It's not the main narrative, but it is the most likely one. Money needs to be moved out.

Kerfoot is the easiest to move. You can move Holl but won’t get much back. You can’t move Muzzin bc of a combination of his NMC and his cap hit.

Stars don't really have the cap space for Brossoit, and they definitely don't have the roster space or need for him as they have Oettinger, Wedgewood, and possibly Khudobin

How is it a W? Leafs have no use for draft picks.

The value they get is cap space. That’s all they need. If it comes to it I’d even do Holl for a 7th.

As for Muzzin it is very unlikely but not impossible. I don’t trade Muzzin to bottom feeders.

The Leafs could use draft picks for any trade deadline acquisitions, have a use for cap space that this trade provides, and getting 2 3rds in the process is just a bonus.
