Yeah no thanks on the Van trade. Sets the team back probably 5 or 6 years and there is no guaranteed high end player involved. No idea who the 10th overall ends up being in 2023 but even in a deep draft there’s no guarantee the ever come close to what Pettersson is.

I wouldn’t give up a first for Oloffson. I would just draft Musty lol. Also I don’t see a world where the isles trade Casey Cizikas because he basically signed a lifetime deal with them last off season.

Demko is top 5 goalie. Still, this is pathetic for a top 15 center and top 5 goalie in the league

-oooh baby i love a big swing, and this is a capital-b Big one. couple things: this would require Vancouver to make a massive shift in team philosophy from "on the cusp contender" to a full teardown. secondly, you are taking back -at least- one bad contract, probably Tucker Poolman since he has longer term than Jason Dickinson. He's your problem now. Lastly, I think Vancouver wants just a little more here. They're strong assets, sure, but this is basically the Eichel trade AND a top-10 goalie trade rolled into one. Remove the protections on the pick, throw one of Devon Levi or Erik Portillo in, and I think you've got something brewing.

-Skip this one if you included him in the Vancouver deal; otherwise, if he's definitely not signing, sure, get something back for him.

-Same vibe, Mittlestadt could use a change of scenery and I'm sure someone sends back a mid-rounder to take a flyer on a reclamation project.

-Probably no if Cizikas needs to be included - the vibe around the Isles fandom is that Lou gave Casey his 6x$2.5M because Seattle was dangling 3x$5M and the Islanders didn't have the cap. So Lou gives Casey the same money spread out over longer term, and I'm sure there's some sort of informal "we won't trade you early in the deal" type of handshake thing going on. Lou is very loyal to his "guys", and Casey truly feels like one to me. I'd also question why you'd target a physical 32-year old 4C with 4x$2.5M left as the guy in that trade when you could probably get a more useful prospect or even potentially get a little more back taking Josh Bailey's expiring $5M back in that deal.

Demko is a top 4 goalie in the league just behind Sorokin at #3. Pettersson is better than Barzal. Think about what package you want would for Barzal and Sorokin, and then add more simply because our defense is in shambles and losing Demko would make us a lottery team whereas the Isles actually have sustainable defense

2 1sts, 2 players drafted in the 1st half of the first round in the past 13 months, a top 4 defensemen with 2 years of affordable term still just 23 years old and a goalie prospect is pathetic?

I hate this for buffalo

Yeah lets compare this to a trade that happened 35 years ago. Sounds about right. How can a deal involving a top 15 C and a top 4 goaltender not even include any of the Sabres BEST assets? We are trading our two most valuable players and not getting any back any of your most valuable players. This is more quantity than it is quality. This would set us back around 6 years. Just look at our defense, we are a bottom team in the league without Demko. UPL is not good enough to carry this defense core

Good thing Demko is better than both of them. Demko is consistently top 5 in nearly every metric at 5v5.

I don't agree that demko is a top 4 goalie and I don't agree that pettersson is a top 15 center.

Petersson also now has 2 years left and will have a QO of 10.25 million

it's definitely a "three quarters for a dollar" type of trade, but like I said up top, the only way this even gets considered is if Vancouver does a full 180 on their organizational direction. I still think more needs to be added, but if i'm tearing everything down, I think a return that starts with guys picked in the first round this year and last year, plus 1sts next year and the year after, plus a couple decent young NHL-ready guys, it's a good place to start. I think I'd push for one of JJ Peterka or Jack Quinn to get added to this package, but if you could get that, the package would literally be a "Rebuild In A Box" - 2 1sts, 2 top prospects, plus a trio of U23 F/D/G players to build around.

editing to add: to answer your question, if something awful happened and the Isles had to tear it all down, I wouldn't hate this package for a Barzal/Sorokin trade. Basically values each guy at a young roster player, a top prospect, and a 1st, with an extra young player with upside thrown in. Not exactly the Eichel deal, but a good starting to point. Of course, if the Isles are in the position to make that kind of deal, there are going to be some super depressing winters in my future...

I suppose you could argue Pettersson outside of the top 15 centers given his "down season" where he was playing injured for half of it. Demko on the other hand, you cant really argue

Compared to other starting goaltenders around the league at 5v5 (minimum 50 games played), Demko is:
3rd in goals saved above expected
5th in goals saved above expected/60
3rd in save percentage
5th in goals against average
5th in goals against average better than expected
3rd in wins above replacement

The main problem of this trade is too much quantity, without any BIG pieces coming back (Thompson, Dahlin, Power). When trading your top 2 more valuable assets, you would expect top of the line assets back

So the first problem is it’s an absolute joke to protect the firsts.

So let’s see what this offer would be for Dahlin and Power

2 protected firsts
Lekkerimaki
Podkolzin
Silovs
Hoglander.

That’s a joke of an offer right?

Even worse. Dahlin and Power are far worse than Pettersson and Demko. The offer you proposed is better than the original offer.

There were 17 goalies that started 50 or more games. That barely covers half of the leagues starters

Then they aren't starters. There were plenty of tandem goalies. Tandem goalies cant even be considered top 10. You seriously going to argue here? At worst, you could have him ranked as low has 7th minimum
