Description
Winnipeg has a lot of cap tied up in D and can use another C/Winger for their top 9. Montreal has the opposite problem.

Edmonton get a defensive dmen a very good bottom 6 centre and a 3rd. Montreal get an offensive dmen and a top 10 protected 1st.

Vegas get another top 9 forward on a good contract for a 2nd. (Maybe Drouin has to play 20-30 games first and show he he is healthy before this trade happens).

Montreal has a tonnnn of NHL forwards and not enough dmen. They get a few dmen here and some picks back. Dadonov should fetch a 2nd or so half retained at the deadline as well.

I know Montreal loves Evans. But they have so many forwards and if this gets them another first, I would be all in for it.

Thoughts?

EDM can't afford that and, even if they could, I wouldn't make that trade. The 1st and Savard's extra year are the real killers.

I think the Winnipeg deal is fair

Montreal likely passes on Barrie at this point we need Savard and Evans more than Barrie. The D looks much better with Matheson-Savard, Harris/Edmundson-DeMelo, Guhle-Harris/Wideman than it does above.

Drouin is likely here until the deadline and Ylonen is likely Laval bound as a result

I would rather have Dvorak than DeMelo tbh
We traded a 1st and a 2nd for Dvorak
We ain’t trying to win so we won’t sell low on him

I would do that EDM trade because Barrie helps the tank and we get a 2023 1st RD pick. But on the other end, EDM could say Evans is one concussion away to retire. He got so many already. Savard is a good player tho but MTL signed him as a free agent, trading him a year and half after his signing isn’t good.

Drouin isn’t worth that, maybe a 3rd half retained but Drouin is so bad defensively coaches don’t like those players, despite the talent Drouin has

Oh and the line up you have above is really bad
Harris Wideman > Barron and Edmundson is really good

Contrary to your description, the Jets need DeMelo as one of only 2 right shot defensemen and have no need for Dvorak. Easy no for Winnipeg.

Dvorak isn't good enough for the top 6, and can't beat out Lowry as 3C, so as a 4C he has little to no value to Winnipeg.

He is a centre/winger. he can play on the wing in the top 9 also. The reason I traded DeMelo was because I don't see anyone taking Pionk or Dillon or Schmidt right now. 5 gurs making 3m+ on D for severals year is too many in my mind. Flipping DeMelo who is a good defensive 4/5 dmen for a middle 6 centre/winger would not be a bad idea.

Just my thoughts anyways smile

Pionk has high trade value…. And Dillon and Schmidt probably have value too. Defenseman are different than forwards.

Yeah Dvorak, at that price just isn't appealing. Defenseman, especially right shot ones, are always more valuable to have around that average bottom 6 players. He's definitely not a middle 6 player.

Pionk won't be traded, but would definitely garner a lot of interest if on the market. You're way off the mark there. It's actually mind boggling that you think Dvorak has value, but Pionk doesn't.

A 3rd for Dvorak might work, but he's not valuable enough to pull a good defenseman in return.

Easy decline from Edmonton. A cap dump and an overpaid 4th liner doesn't get you a perennial 50 point defensemen and a 1st!! tears of joy

Dvorak definitely beats Lowry and it's not particularly close

yeah demelo makes other defensemen better, the jets need that especially with bowness bringing in new defensive systems. demelo’s value to the jets is higher than what people think. dvorak is a useful player but theres internal competition for the middle and bottom 6 too. i’m for the jets seeing what we have with the new systems and re-motivated players this year, what happens this season will have a huge impact for next. so i really dont expect the jets to give up assets for dvorak, who isnt someone thats gonna push the roster over the top

Yeah, that could work. The Jets just can't afford to give up a RHD for him.
