There needs to be at least 1 if not 2 pieces that could potentially turn out to be as good as Kaprisov, then a really good roster player (have that in Girard) and a few picks (not necessary that they are both 1sts). I don't know much about Kaut (assuming he's a blue chip prospect then that's 1 check), but Newhook is closer to being a bust than being a Kaprisov-caliber player. They aren't going to get any more pieces which just means that Colorado is not a good fit.

If Colorado's 1sts were likely top 10 picks then maybe this deal would be sufficient enough or Kaprisov demanded a trade and refused to play until it happens.

Colorado fleeced the Wild here. Those 1st picks are late picks. Girard has a nice offensive upside but is too small and not good in his own end and we saw that these last playoffs. Newhook is most likely a bust and Kaut is a fringe 3rd/4th line player. Wow this was bad.

Swap Girard for Byram and add another 1st and we're talking.

I guess it depends on what you think Newhook will become. If you think he will be a top-6 C someday, go for it.

How about 9mil for 9mil contract? Makar for Kaprizov, anyone?

Pretty sure neither team would take that, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Wow. Waaaaaay to early to call Newhook a bust.

May wanna look at Ek-Eriksson's first 3 years in Minny.

Never cracked 20 points.

Tell me...... is he a bust?🤔🤔🤔

I didn't call Newhook a bust, re-read what I said "Newhook is closer to being a bust than being a Kaprisov-caliber player".

I know Newhook is only 21.

I only think 4 or 5 teams would have the right pieces and also be a competitive team to want to pay to acquire him. In my opinion those teams are Jersey, Dallas, LA, Islanders possibly, Ottawa possibly and Carolina possibly.

If you’re actually trying to make something work here, Rantanen+ is a more reasonable starting point. No reason for Minnesota to move from Kaprisov though.

Colorado would likely reject but so would Minnesota (unless they are scared Kaprisov will leave), it's not like they have many forwards who can drive plays. Colorado would be in a better position (atm) to accept the trade but they would have an imbalance in their roster and in the long-term their defense will get substantially weaker.

MN needs to do it and suck it up and take the "L" for the sake of hockey as a whole. COL would just be so fun to watch after fleecing the Wild in this trade.

Using the word bust in any context on a 21 year old with that kind of game is bold.

Given the injuries the Avs have had this year, any chance of him playing sheltered minutes disappeared. The kid is very good, just young, getting schooled with a side of sophomore jinx (because that is a real thing).

The context is clear, but allow me to clarify.

I started off by saying that Minnesota would need at least 1 if not two opportunities of getting a player of Kaprisov's calibre. So, Kaut has to be a blue chip prospect (I don't know about him but what I've seen since in the comments hasn't been flattering at all), and Newhook must be breaking out at least for that package to work considering that they probably won't get someone of Kaprisov's calibre with late 1sts. They can't just rely on potential, if Newhook at his current development, was 24 he would be a bust, so that's why I said what I said. If Colorado's 1st could be expected to be top 10 or top 5 in any given year, then maybe there's something there (they would be getting only one 1st in that case if Kaut was a highly touted prospect himself).

Obviously, if Newhook brokeout, Colorado wouldn't trade him and Girard just to have another great winger, but that's besides the point. The main point was that the package is not a match.

I can get behind that thinking.

Kaut is a 4th liner at best. The potential was there, but I think that is where he is. Can't put lipstick on a pig.

And I absolutely agree that for Newhook to work, he has to have some traction in the NHL, which at this time he doesn't.

Really..... Kaprisov is one of those rare players I beleive I could never get full market value for. Incredible talent that could be lights out with a legit 1C. (Love Minny's balance down the middle, but none of them smack 1C..... more a 2A, 2B, 2C thing going on).
