Pens get PKane

Created by: LetsGoPens69
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 1, 2023
Published: Jan. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Pens can get P.Kane(at 50% retention) they should trade both Poulin and O’Connor if need be. Plus a draft pick(s).

I still believe in S.Poulin. He’s still a top 100 prospect on any list out there( an “A-“ or “B+” prospect).

He’s 90th on this Hockey Writers list that was updated August 2022 (https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-top-100-prospects-ranking/). And he’s 86th on McKeen Hockey list that is updated quarterly (https://www.mckeenshockey.com/).

Power forwards that can put the puck in the net are getting harder and harder to find. I see Poulin(6’2-6’3, 220 pounds) as a Tkuchuk-lite. He can start off on the bottom 6 and work his way up too. He’s not just a top 6 or bust kind of prospect.

Drew O’Connor has a been a PPG player the last three(3) seasons in the AHL(7 goals and 19 points in 20 games in a shortened 20-21 season. 12 goals and 32 points in 33 games last year in 21-22 season. And 8 goals and 22 points in 20 games so far this season). O’Connor is also a big kid at 6’3, 200 pounds too. He’s earned a spot but is blocked in the middle 6 in Pittsburgh. Any rebuilding team would love to have him.

Plus the conditional 2023 2nd round pick(if the Pens make the SC finals it turns into a 1st) in a historically deep draft. And a 2024 2nd round pick.

They could probably pull it off, but that package isn't gonna do it. It will have to include pieces that PIT shouldn't give up because that roster is getting to old and their pipeline is already heavily depleted.

The only x-factor for CHI is leverage. At least from what I've read, Kane is being very selective about where he wants to go, if he decides to go at all this season, so it may not give CHI significant negotiating power. Now, I'm not saying the leverage will make them take a crap deal, but my guess is the return won't live up to the hype.

Not for that offer they don't. Red Wings decline. We're already swimming with forwards. We have to shed at least 2 of them. Fair offer though.

Sure. Philly had no leverage when Giroux would ONLY go to FLA, and Kane is easily more valuable. The Giroux deal should be the bare minimum comparable, if Kane wants a trade. Their leverage is literally that they have Kane and (insert team) wants him.

I agree this trade would need more. Kane starts with a 1st regardless. I think a 1st, 3rd and Poulin would be fine if the Pens are the team of Kane's choice. Now, the main issue is Kapanen. The only way a trade like this works for the cap is you guys taking Kapanen which would obviously cost move from the Pens' end. I don't see the Pens being realistic for Kane.

Idk. I think CHI could realistically eat Kapanen without much extra cost to PIT, if any.

Detroit isn't paying anything for kk, you have to pay us to dump him.
