Schenn deal is the only plausible trade for both sides.

I'd take Garland....the problem is we don't have cap space (unless VAN want to take equal cap back) and he'd make things even tighter next year. The amount of maneuvering it would take when he'd be on our 3rd line just isn't worth it.

What about some of these changes?
Horvat Trade: Remove Drury
Garland Trade: Canucks retain some money to make the cap work.
Boeser Trade: Change the 2023 1st into a 2023 2nd that only becomes a 2023 1st if the Wild make the Conference Finals.
The Schenn trade stays the same.

Canes won't trade Morrow, Canucks don't want Kotkaniemi at the cap hit he has. No deal.

Canucks aren't trading Garland if they're already moving Horvat and Boeser. Makes 0 sense for the Canucks to retain salary on a contract that still has 3 years left. The only reason the Canucks make these trades is to regain young prospects and clear space so Hoglander and Podkolzin can play.

Boeser Trade: Change the 2023 1st into a 2023 2nd that only becomes a 2023 1st if the Wild make the Conference Finals.

Minnesota does not want Boeser. Boeser will need to be swapped with another struggling player in a similar age/cap hit.

That's fine.

How about we talk about the fact that Bo’s return is going to be nothing (literally nothing because a trade won’t happen) until Jim Rutherford steps into the modern world and allows teams to talk to Bo’s agent about an extension. The missing piece of this is the extension.

$8m x 6 and let’s talk. Anything more or longer, the Canes are the wrong team. Also, you’d be lucky to get Morrow & 2024 1st (lottery protected) from the Canes even with an extension. That’s the futures look on things. If you want KK, it’s a different deal. I doubt Drury is a real target for Vancouver.

Genuine question when's the last time a player with no term returned the equivalent of 2 of a teams top prospects, a young, middle 6 forward with term and a 1st?

Bruins would absolutely have interest in Garland. A cost effective winger with term… from SCITUATE 😂 don’t disagree just to disagree

I’d give up more for them to retain a bit too

Yes and no. I'm sure they'd be interested if they could fit him, but cap is going to be tight next year and they are already pretty deep in the wings. I mean Taylor Hall is playing 3LW lol.

-If Tampa's interested in reuniting with Schenn, this probably gets it done.

-Take out Morrow & KK and maybe Carolina thinks about it. As @canica555 said upthread, I think they would want to touch base with Horvat's agent before they'd even agree to that, though - they should be able to fit him next season & going forward, but if he's got zero interest in re-signing in Carolina I could see that affecting their interest, or at least their offer.

-Underselling on Garland (Beecher isn't good and you don't need to staple a pick to him) but I don't think Boston's a great target - Garland probably winds up as another $5M 3rd liner next to Charlie Coyle. I think Garland would be a good target to trade for another guy who needs a change of scenery if you're looking for a new home for him.

-Boeser would be too big a wrench in Minnesota's cap next year for them to take him on for nothing, much less give up a 1st+ for him. Boeser probably moves closer to the draft, when teams will have a better idea of their salary obligations for '23-24, and probably just brings back a couple picks then. I don't think anyone's trading for him in-season - the teams that have cap space aren't going to be super interested in a 26 year old winger with a $6.65M cap hit; the teams that could use a guy like him don't have the space currently. Wait til the summer when the market will be more open and you can get a better return.

Canes pass. Too much to give up. I like Bo and wouldn’t mind an extension but he’ll probably demand too much to actually sign long term coming off a career year with heavily inflated shooting %.
