That Horvat trace is ridiculously bad for the isles. A young d man who is under control for an expiring center,

Welcome to cap friendly Mike Milbury.

When you have a chance to trade a young top pair defenseman for a 28 year old having a career year you gotta do it

-Terrible deal for the Isles. Center is one of the few positions where they have strength (Barzal/Nelson at the top of the lineup with Raty coming soon), so trading a 23 year old RD2 who'll push 50 points *again* this season for a pending UFA center who needs an extension and will struggle to match this year's production is a bad use of assets. Horvat's older, already more expensive and primed to be even more so, and creates a hole on one part of the roster to fill a hole that isn't really there.

-Blues pass. Beau is an overpaid third liner at this point and will probably only move out as a "change of scenery" type trade. The Blues aren't going to look at him as a key piece to acquire in a Tarasenko deal, and I can't see them being all excited about not getting a 1st back, either.

-Assuming you meant this to be for '23-24 - I can't see Dumba taking that much of a pay cut this summer. He's been a solid, dependable top-4 player for years; he's going to sign for more than what Nick Leddy did last summer.

-Fair value for Varly but barring a major injury to Tristan Jarry I don't see PIttsburgh spending big on a backup - Casey DeSmith is already on board as a reliable backup if Jarry needs a night off.

Yeah blues pass. I'd rather trade Tarasenko for a 1st plus a prospect rather than Beau who is more of a change of scenery guy getting over paid by a million

I agree the Isles should retool. I disagree that Dobson should be sent out in any retooling scenario.

Not judging the Vancouver deal as it has been beaten to death multiple times. But Horvat does something your other top 6 Centerman don't do well win faceoffs having the power of that would be benefical Horvat to the Island does make sense as Barzal or Nelson might be better on the wing then at Center and having a guy who can will draws other then Pageau would help. I do think that in the long run now would Lou trade the players required to get Horvat that is where I'm not sure of and thats fine so team will or I'm still hoping Van jettisoned other players and keeps Horvat or trades to a contending team with no cap space and signs him back on July 1st.

i'd legit do it - both of them are playing at a sub-40 point pace, but have raw tools that work well. Kapanen could use a change of scenery too - there's only so many times you can trade a man for Filip Hallander before it breaks him.
