I am confused and a trade

Created by: Kyriakos_Grizzly
Team: 2022-23 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 8, 2023
Published: Feb. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I thought the Panthers needed more Cap space so they can get Duclair back in the lineup. They have over 500k Cap space with Duclair in the lineup. What I am missing here?

Trade itself:

Some Wings fans say we should trade our UFA's for futures only and some say that we need to get immediate help. This trade brings in both.
If Vrana is traded / Bought out: Wings need to bring in another goals scorer. Couple picks going back to Detroit for retaining money and giving the Panthers more Cap room. Bertuzzi and Duclair are both 27y old with pretty similar numbers. Duclair has one more year left on his deal while Bertuzzi is a UFA.
Trades
FLA
  1. Bertuzzi, Tyler ($2,375,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Bertuzzi brings the "playoff style" hockey that Paul Maurice wants from his players.
DET
  1. Duclair, Anthony
  2. 2024 5th round pick (PHI)
  3. 2025 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Vrana's replacement.

Red Wings decline. I think they can do better in a Bert trade. I think his value is much higher than it is on CFACGM. 🤭

Bert certainly would be a good fit in Sunrise.

Just to add....Panthers are in 11th place in the East. Panthers/Bertuzzi and playoffs doesn't seem to combination we will see in the spring of 2023.

I don't necessarily think he's being undervalued, but I also don't know if this is the right fit for the Wings.

Healthy Bertuzzi was very solid. The issue that I have is that the return from hand surgery rarely results in the player coming back and being 100% immediately after.

Bert would fit on any playoff team. GM's know this which is why he'll get a much better return than CFACGM posters think.

I didn't say anything about the playoffs. I spoke about Bertuzzi's playstyle.

Kris Draper won 4 Cups. Marcel Dionne won zero Cups. Draper must've been better.

I'm still not on the "Florida is going to miss the playoffs" train, but yeah, it's a pretty big longshot right now. I think it's more just disbelief at how they've fallen off, but how do you expect to win with that D-core, and missing Ekblad a lot of the time.

Realistically, they probably need 44 pts in their last 29 games to even come close to sniffing the last wildcard spot. That's slightly better than the .700 pts percentage that they've put up in their past 10 games, in which they've gone 6-2-2 (Which would get them 41 pts.).

Would need a pretty incredible finish to the season.

Bertuzzi hasnt played a single second of playoff hockey. not sure what draper and Dionne have to do with this.

Projected cap hit doesn't include the performance bonuses.
Lundell and Knight have performance bonuses which aren't included. If they hit them, they may just go into the overage pool for next season if Florida is at the limit this year. Would have to review the rules to be certain.

I'd take Bert for duclair straight I don't need picks. I'd rather duclair than the middling 2nd rounder we'd get for Bert

Needing cap space was from before Hornqvist went on LTIR. It's a problem that will come back when he needs to come off.

I would do that as well.

It feels like some fans don't think beyond the immediate future. Duclair has a cheap Cap hit (-3,000,000). If Duclair plays well in Detroit, I am sure a team would pay more for him than for Bertuzzi (2nd round pick ?).

Kind of like calling Anderson a playoff beast with 14 points in 43 games.

Wasn't I speaking of the Carolina Panthers? Kinda funny, the high flying Bruins obtain Bertuzzi for their playoff push. And the Panthers 40 points behind the Bruins, fourth in the Atlantic, catch fire at the end of the season, beat the 1st Bruins in round one and looks like the 2nd place Leafs in round two.
