You trade our assistant captain for a healthy scratch?

5 pieces for Meier isn't happening IMO...3 pieces, a protected 1st, an A prospect and a roster player. That's all the Islanders gave up and Van held cap.
Sabres don't need cap to be held.
Some might argue Meier is better but Horvat plays center and that evens the playing field.

Canes have no need for Girgenson. Kase apparently done with nhl. Trade doesn’t make sense for either team.

I don't mind it, it's a bit much but it really doesn't hurt that bad either. Timo takes JJ spot and he drops to Mitts spot. Don't see how we get Philadelphia's 2024 2nd so this all gets messed up anyway.

1st or no dice on Vladdy - particularly if he is coming with an extension.

I’d actually be good with the trade, but I’d also want to make sure we can get Johnson and Portillo signed, Johnson was a former 1st round pick and could easily be a 2nd pair LHD and Portillo is a pretty good goalie prospect. If they don’t sign we’d need a 1st though.

Yeah this is a pretty solid package. Two of Buffalo's better prospects that are closer to NHL ready age at positions the Jackets need is a good return for Gavi. Plus there's the 2nd and another roster player. If there was a deal that didn't include a 1st that I'd be fine with them accepting this would be one of them assuming they can sign Johnson and Portillo like you said.
