Only reason to do this is if Meier is agreeing to a 7mx8 extension.

SJS should run with this if Dubas offered this for Meier.

Meier is a luxury the Leafs can't afford, trade wise or salary cap wise.

Yeah, the Leafs will just hang up if that is the ask. A 22YO RHD at a good cap hit, a potential middle 6 PWF, and a 2023 first RD pick, too much to give up (especially for a rental). Even if the Leafs make that deal, we have no one to cover the right side unless we are comfortable paying more assets to get another RHD. Overall, too much

I think he has to take less if he goes to NJ, CAR, or VGK which are the other teams reportedly very interested. Chances are VGK just rents him but I wouldn't be surprised if they make space for him if ge takes 8-8.5m.

I think both NJ and CAR are only interested if he will sign at a price they like. So, there is a chance for the Leafs to offer less than this and have a competitive offer but then I think he'll end up in Vegas or Boston or Tampa somehow if the ask drops.

It's Sandin in there, LHD, but still right.

Why? CAR and NJD can fairly easily match and beat this offer and would be willing too if they can extend which the leafs have a much harder time doing

Good trade for the Sharks. I think NJD & Canes can still compete, but it depends on who is willing to do so. Based on reports, NJD will do whatever they can to beat out additional offers

Sending Meier to VGK is probably an act of suicide for Grier so I'd take that off the table. Fans would be so pissed. I'm still hoping for NJ. It just makes the most sense.

I think this deal would have been accepted by SJ long ago if it was on the table. Dubas has been saying they won’t trade Knies or a first (I know that was for a ‘rental’).

Does Toronto have room for another $8m+ forward? Aren’t you basically telling Nylander he’s out next year if you trade these assets and sign Timo?

A NJD deal comes close if they add Holtz and Mukhamadullin.
A CAR deal is further off, unless they are willing to part with Morrow, which I highly doubt. Nobody Carolina has comes close to a value of a NJD or TOR deal.

SJS is getting a top 6 upside prospect in Knies and a top 4 upside in Sandin.
Meier's extension is an issue for Toronto, but this is a trade I'd run with as SJS.

Idk, Vegas will have to toss aside a good player or two on top of adding futures if they are going to resign him. If they aren't then Shark fans can breath. Would definitely be better to send him off east.

I'm also rooting for him to end up in NJ and Holtz in SJ, but if it's not there I would want it to be the Leafs, not for this though. I think he'll be a nice fit in Carolina as well, but I think I would rather see a blockbuster trade with VGK, more entertaining.

Disagree with the TOR piece. Canes have better prospects than Knies and have more depth in quality prospects than TOR. For an extended Meier they’d move morrow or Nikishin plus add a first and probably a second and B/B+ prospect like Gunler, Drury, etc

Neither Gunler nor Drury hold up much value here. They may have more depth in their pool, but nobody in the pool (aside from Morrow) is close to Knies in value.
Nikishin is having a good KHL year, but on an insanely stacked SKA.
IF Toronto was willing to slot in Sandin, it's Sandin > Nikishin.

This package, while not going to happen, is probably the best value Meier would fetch. Doubt NJD would be willing to part with Hughes or Nemec to be able to top it.

Very biased Leafs outlook but to each his own. Gunler and Drury not having any value in your eyes tells me what I need to know. Crazy what a couple of click bait reports about Toronto thinking about Meier does to the fanbases estimation of their own prospects. Happy to wait for it to play out and come back to this.

I'm not even a Leafs fan lol. It's just very easy to tell that this is a solid trade for Meier.
Dubas had already stated he wouldn't be making any big splashes. You can come back to this, because it won't happen. I was simply stating that this is peak market value for Meier.

Drury is a 23 year old 2nd round pick who can't get a proper footing into the lineup, with only 20+ NHL games played. He has little to no value here.
Gunler, while younger, is in a similar position. 2nd round player with some middle ground AHL stats.

Neither are exactly "blue chip" prospects here. It seems as if your thoughts of my biases are merely projections.

If you wanna go off value...

Knies = Morrow
Sandin > Nikishin, Gunler, Drury.
Toronto 1st = Carolina 1st (Both late).

Toronto won't be in on Meier, but a NJD trade would beat out what Carolina would offer. Thats if NJD are willing to be in on Meier.

The devils don't need to put nemec or Hughes to top this offer.

Holtz, Yegor/Casey/Shakir/Arseni, 1st beats it alone, and then they have a variety of young Dmen like Walsh, Bahl, or Ohoktyuk to be icing on the cake.

If TO was willing to part with Knies AND Sandin, it doesn’t get topped.
I wouldn’t consider Holtz “significantly better”, considering he’s a 7OA pick who struggles to produce at an NHL level.
