Right side d other than Filip Hronek

Created by: Angusc
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 21, 2023
Published: Mar. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rather than Hronek, would you give up the picks we gave up for him and instead use them for one of these players? Or do you think Hronek is the right choice for the Canucks instead? I don't like the Hronek deal since he will be overpaid next season.

I know all teams listed decline, but I'd like to know about their values regardless. Also, these players are chosen because this is about cost control for a longer period of time, as they are ages 25-26 that management values more.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Initial trade assets
2.
VAN
  1. Whitecloud, Zach
Additional Details:
More cost controlled player for 5 years since Hronek's deal expires next season. Probably have to add more besides the 1st and 2nd.

Barbashev and Kessel's deals will expire next season and they are facing a cap crunch. So bringing in Podkolzin would replace Kessel for either the same price based on his track record.
VGK
  1. Podkolzin, Vasily
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
3.
VAN
  1. Marino, John
Additional Details:
Another cost controlled D for a higher cap hit, but has 4 years left on that deal.

This is only if Severson really wants to stay in Jersey and refuses to sign anywhere else.
NJD
    2023 1st round pick (NYI)
    2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
    4.
    VAN
    1. Fabbro, Dante
    Additional Details:
Either the NYI 1st or a 2nd if he is a downgrade from Hronek based on his stats.
    NSH
      2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
      5.
      VAN
      1. Bean, Jake
      2. Boqvist, Adam
      3. Peeke, Andrew
      Additional Details:
One of Peeke or Bean or Boqvist. But I'm sure Boqvist is untouchable with his age and will want more, so I will go with Peeke instead since he has 3 more years.

Outside of Marino I think Hronek is better than all of these players so I am not upset with the price we paid, the real miss was not adding Marino last offseason, if we do that and add Hronek at the TDL the right side would have been solved long term

I think you guys should be ecstatic with Hronek and what you paid for him, I'm slightly jealous tbh...

Peeke is definitely available, as is Jake Bean.

Boqvist has taken some massive strides in the last couple of months but definitely isn't untouchable. Doubt they'd move him for picks, but in a package for a good center (i.e. Hertl), that's a different discussion.

I don't think Boqvist fits what Vancouver would be looking for, since he's basically a lesser right-handed Quinn Hughes. But for that price, any of those three would be available for sure.

We will. He is a key part of a contender locked up long term on a bargain deal

This isn't about Petry (if fans are still frustrated Hextall made that trade for replacing Marino), it's about comparing other players who would be either better, equal or worse besides Hronek in terms of their age and years/cap on their contract.

In terms of rebuild, trading for Horvat and getting back a right side D in Hronek is a retooling move, so obviously they're not rebuilding.

Ahh didnt catch on with that. Also Hextall didnt have to trade Marino in the first place.

That was a missed opportunity by PA not getting Marino. The price of Rathbone and a 2nd seemed reasonable tbh.

May be too much on the surface, but he's making half of what Hronek, Marino and Carlo are making. 5 years at a 2.75 cap hit is pretty good value for any cap strapped team while keeping in mind they have to sign Petey next season.
