I know he has fallen out of favor for some CBJ fans, so I'm curious if a deal with that framework is possible.

I’d be down for CBJ. With Jiricek likely a T2 RD next year, Boqvist is a squeeze candidate.

I don’t think he’s fallen out of favor, it’s just hard to see his fit on the team consider what his game is and where the team needs are.

The kid has a ton of offensive upside - he can score, no problem. CBJ just need more defensive guys. Put another way, Boqvist is a luxury piece for a team with an already good D, and that’s just not where CBJ are.

I think it'd be great for MTL. Adding a young RD with top 4 upside while still drafting twice in the first round, in a first-round with few defensemen.

Yup it could be great you are right! But do we really need D prospects (Considering we have Guhle, Barron, Hutson, Mailloux, Harris and Xhekaj)?

Only Barron & Mailloux are RHD
I’m not sold on both
Barron has played very good lately, for quite a while so that’s reassuring
Mailloux … we will have to wait
Guhle is really good
Harris UNDERRATED. I think he has been better than Guhle but we can’t compare because Harris played against weaker competition
Xhekaj look like he’ll be a bottom pairing dman, but a good one. Rare type of dman
Hutson is the GOAT ! JK, look very promising but again, LHD

Harris is good but isnt better then a Healthy Ghule.
What we've seen is a young Ghule where a 3rd pair RD on a SC championship team was his top pair Partner.
That's no Knock on Savard he's done better then anyone expected but he's not good enough support .

Barron now is likely to play with Ghule since Savard has become the Gorges to Matheson's Markov.
Unless we move out Matheson or send down Ghule or Xhekaj or Waive Kovacevic to keep Harris until Hutson comes then no matter what he has to go if we acquire Boqvist like above.

If its me i move Matheson at the draft to a team in need.
He's played amazing which has given us the ability to do so.
It also lets us build up Harris more for that day when we eventually have to move him out
Only other option i could see to keep him longterm is move Xhekaj to Forward

cant trade matheson as you cant play a whole bunch of kids on defense and matheson is so fast and we can live with the odd defensive lapse plus he is from here and loves it here,, Remember Savard is only here next year and probably goes the following season at the deaDLINE so we keep matheson

Matheson and Savard
Guhle and Barron
Xjerex and Harris
kovacevix
With Hutson coming in 2 years and Mailloux maybe in one year plus those other european defenseman could work out too.. the defense is set they work is done now they just need to get expereince and some guys need to get stronger like Hutson

I'd want more for Boqvist tbh. He's finally clicking for Columbus in a way that we haven't seen before. The powerplay has been running at a top 5 rate in the league since mid January with him at the point and he's still only 22. I'd be very disappointed if they screwed up that chemistry to just move up in the first round. This is the kind of trade that builds you a rep as a farm team for other teams.

of course you would but what?

Boqvist is expendable with your current pipeline. 14OA to 24OA is massive leap especially as I see 22 cant miss prospects this draft then it becomes a lottery

You don't just throw good players away because you have potentially good players behind them. They'd be perfectly capable of running a defense that includes Jiricek, Boqvist, Peeke and Gudbranson next year. Also, getting a better player for 3 years from now doesn't help them as much as a player that is a contributor on what could be a top 10 powerplay next year, who again, is still only 22 years old. At some point they have to start thinking about winning now and not winning in the future.

If Boqvist played for the habs this guy would have him as a future number 1 guy and worth 3 firsts

Moving up in the draft 10 spots to the top15 isnt throwing players away! Boqvist came in the Seth Jones trade which from your logic was already throwing Boqvist away! From a tanking team to a Top10 pp because of a small sample size lmao the delusion

We had more or less what we needed with a healthy Edmundson and Petry. Circumstances changed at the wrong time.
Guhle developing alongside Petry would prepare him to play with Barron, and Barron playing with Edmundson would prepare him to play with Guhle.
Savard would then be the veteran partner on the remaining pair, with either Harris or Xhekaj. The right amount of support for developing compatibility with future partners of similar styles.

Matheson is really throwing a wrench into things. He's playing and fitting in too well, making people hesitant to move him, but there's no developmental benefit to playing him with Savard and he's not the responsible partner with some net front presence that Barron needs to anchor him. By the time we might be able to benefit from his performance more than our development, he'll be on the tail end of his contract. It doesn't help that we have a bottleneck at that position and Harris (or potentially Hutson) could provide similar production if they get the development ice time that Matheson is using.

The Jackets are not trying to keep being the youngest team in the league every single year. Trading away Boqvist just as he's starting to show what made him an 8th OA pick just to move up to 14th OA would be a completely ****ing asinine move for Jarmo to make.

What in the hell are you even on about? Getting Boqvist for Jones was throwing Boqvist away? Wtf logic are you trying to employ there?

The team tanking has nothing to do with them having a good powerplay over the last 3 months. Marchenko wasn't playing early in the season, Boqvist was injured and Laine was injured. After they played together for a bit they got into a groove and have been scoring at just over a 30% rate since January. Thinking they could maybe hold a 22-23% rate next year and be a top 10 PP isn't the craziest thing to say. Maybe try not being so hyperbolic.

yeah if you wanted a shutdown pair you play guhle with savard and the matheson could play with kovacevik and harris with zjerex or barron.... lots of things could work but matheson is not the shutdown guy he is the offensive one with his speed.
