I think there's a point where either a team can't afford to completely gut their team (especially Vancouver who want to be competitive next year) and the team that wins the lottery probably needs him more in building up a team with a generational talent. Just makes no sense for either team

Yeah Canucks decline. That is definitely more than the Lindros trade though. Vancouver won't sell their entire team for Bedard, and whoever wins Bedard shouldn't trade him, they should use him as their franchise centrepiece to build their team around.

There's no way Van does this. While Bedard is producing spectacularly with teenagers, Petey is already doing that with NHLers. He's already showing generational talent. If Petey puts up PPG and continues his two way game for a decade, Van has the Selke favorite for the next dexade. I wouldn't trade Petey for Bedard straight up, let alone all the best players in Van + picks.

this deal is of course ridiculous but calling Pettersson generational is quite the mega stretch. Nucks definitely consider Petey for Bedard straight up, probably still do even if they have to add a decent bit, but certainly nowhere close to this amount.

Haha, I am a Blackhawk fan, but I wanted to model a trade that was similar to the Lindros trade and see what it came to from a Cap perspective - then decided to publish it. The Lindros trade of course was pre-cap days. This trade is ridiculous, but it is similar (despite a reply suggesting that Vancouver is giving up more), which is ludicrous. Of course, Bedard would be worth more to Vancouver than just about anyone else because he will sell out the arena for years to come being a hometown kid. With that said, the interesting question is, in a realistic trade scenario (given the teams actually get the draft position their standings currently dictate), the 2 1st's have to stay (1 of them being a swap this year)....I still think the Hawks would get 2 of the 3 from Boesser, Petterrson, and Hughes, no? So would Vancouver fans say yes to Boesser, Hughes, and 2 1st? I feel like that is more than fair, perhaps not enough...

What trade did he honestly lose? Maybe Debrincat, but that's not even a sure thing yet. He wins more than he loses, but certainly seems like a fair GM to trade with most of the time.

thank god ur not a gm you have no idea how to build a team. petey is a beast, hughes is a beast, two high firsts to get two more elite players, and multiple others that can be turned into picks or value as a player

Hughes doesn’t play defence which is a massive no no for a defensemen

Petey while he’s great I won’t deny that he’s just not someone I’d consider wanting for the #1 pick

You obviously haven’t watched the Canucks this season. Hughes has been pretty solid defensively. Getting a top 5-8C, top 7-10 dman, a top 7 goalie, a winger that’ll put up 60 points, a 2nd-3rd pair RHD, a lottery pick, and another 1st is a horrific overpay, even for Bedard

I never said he lost any trades, I said he hasn’t fleeced anybody. That said, (I think there are worse GM’s) but he has had some mismanagement of assets. Such as Kubalik and Strome.

Wrong. His defence has been very very good this season. Even strength especially he has been extremely good. Just goes to show you don’t watch or look at the stats. Pretty ignorant take from you

Canuck’s decline easily. It isn’t worth it for the canucks to do this. You’re asking them to give up a franchise centre, a franchise defence man, their franchise goalie, a top 6 winger, a U25 RHD, a top 10 pick, a likely lottery pick,

You don’t want a top 10 centre along with a franchise decebsemen, 2 top 10 first round picks, a top 6 forward, and a RHD?

I get overpaying for Bedard but at this point that's way to much, i doubt even McDavid would get a return like this
