Description

After the feedback from my v1 I tried again with some different trades.
v1 (feedback): Edmundson to Edmonton (never going to happen), 1st+ for Kakko (mixed reviews, interesting to explore later), Dvo to the Pitt (Generally positive)

For this version I kept the Dvo trade and tried a couple of others:

Toronto - Toronto gets an experienced backup/1B in Allen while MTL take the injury prone Murray. This gives Toronto more certainty in net for cheaper while it gives MTL the option to play with 3 goalies, Murray probably being injured half the season. Reason for this is Primeau would have to go on waivers if sent down (I think), furthermore, Murray could be flipped at the deadline if the right conditions apply.

Vancouver - Try no2 of finding Edmundson a new home. With their cap troubles and unwillingness to rebuild, Vancouver looks like an easy target. In Edmundson they get a cheaper alternative to Myers as well as cheap young(ish) depth who can still get better. Myers can be flipped by MTL at the deadline.

Detroit - Very small trade just to make space. Kovacevic is a good 3rd pairing D which would fit well behind Seider and Chiarot. Detroit dont give up much, MTL make something out of nothing

Canucks pass. Better to just pay a mid round pick to dump Myers as we don’t need any more wingers and don’t really have a spot for another LHD

All these trades are making MTL worse, and all they get is a couple late picks in 2024 and 2025.

That is what is happening here. Allen cost the Habs a 3rd when he was getting paid a million more from the Blues. He has at least 3rd round pick value at a lower salary. Murray is the cap dump here.

Carter NMC makes this Pens move impossible. He already pulled some shenanigans to move from CBJ to LAK back in the day.

Dont see the point in moving Kovacevic for a 5th. Maybe a 3rd but they like him on the bottom pair.

Definately agree with this. Kovacevic is a very reliable defender, and his contract ($766,667 for two more season) would make him a hot commodity on the trade market, should the Habs try to shop him. But as a RHD, I don't think the Habs are ready to move him yet. He's holding Mailloux spot in the line-up for now.

Canucks decline. Myers can be dumped with a 4th after his bonus is paid, don't see the point into upgrading to a 2nd to add a few players that we don't need at all.

Leafs don't even consider. You are trading a bad goalie with two more years and a bad AAV for a goalie who is on a an expiring deal and Leafs still pay the third. This isn't a donation, pay up if you want to dump Allen. Starts with your 2023 first
