          BUF
Barkley Goodrow will not be traded to Buffalo, unless there are some serious sweeteners added.
While he would be a great addition to the bottom 6, his $3,641,667 salary until 2026-27 would not fit into the Sabres plans in two years when Quinn and Peterka will be looking for raises.
            NYR
Buffalo would not likely have any interest with Goodrow.
              5.
              BUF
                Jeff Petry
Taking on $6,250,000 until 2024-25 would required significant compensation.
HIghly unlikely Terry Pegula would accept a trade for Jeff.
Pittsburgh would not want to give Buffalo the compensation required to absorb $12,500,000.
                PIT
Buffalo would not likely have any interest with Petry.
                  6.
                  BUF
                    Tyler Myers.
Over paid, under performing, not on the Sabres radar.
Even at $1,000,000 he would most likely be scratched with Jokiharju and Lyubushkin in the line up.
NO DEAL unless a first round pick is included.
                    VAN
Buffalo would not likely have any interest with Myers

Not bad, only thing with Petry is if his bonus is picked up before the trade. His actual Salary is lower than his cap hit for the last 2yrs.

Boston can buyout both and the cap hit would be 1m next year so I don’t envision them giving up significant picks to move either.

Would not be surprised if they buyout one trade the other for late pick or FC.

Ironically Reilly is really the better of the two but the perception is he is less tradeable. They play opposite style of games. Forbort’s style was more needed.

                      Very accurate, of course.

Always good to see a realistic analysis by someone who knows his own team inside and out and looks at it honestly.

I hope Adams finds the top 4 D, that should be the main target. Moreover, he already said that improving the defense would be a priority and before that he wanted to trade for Chychrun.

I think that it is quite realistic if Olofsson is trade, and Savoie or Kulich takes his place. Savoie is already better on defense and on the forecheck than Olofsson, and he is also a more versatile player. If one of Okposo and Girgensons doesn't come back or they both leave, then I would like to get quality players in their place.

I would also consider goalie for tandem with Levi, but they will probably want another chance for UPL, especially if they improve the defense and we have fewer injuries, I hope this works.

Forbort, Petry and Goodrow would be good adds for the Sabres imo.

Nicely done. I think other teams fans look at their roster, decide they should clear some cap out, and they land on buffalo as the logical place to dispose of their cap problems. As you've pointed out here, it would take adequate compensation, and that's if ownership would even sign off on it.

Rangers are not paying anyone to trade Goodrow, so you don't have to worry about that.

The only thing pertaining to goodrow I want to see from rangers fans on this site is a buyout.

Not bad, only thing with Petry is if his bonus is picked up before the trade. His actual Salary is lower than his cap hit for the last 2yrs. Completely agree, there was a Penguin post that sent Olorsson @50% for Petry and 2 seconds, one can only dream of a trade as that.

Boston can buyout both and the cap hit would be 1m next year so I don’t envision them giving up significant picks to move either. Fobort would be great paired with Lyubushkin as both would make it very uncomfortable in the defensive zone. Maybe the pick could be lower than a third or would not be necessary at all, I sort of presumed the value of Fobort would be balanced by the cost of buying out Reilly.

                      Very accurate, of course.
Always good to see a realistic analysis by someone who knows his own team inside and out and looks at it honestly Thanks and back at you who knows the Sabres very well.

I hopeI hope Adams finds the top 4 D, that should be the main target.
If one of Okposo and Girgensons doesn't come back or they both leave, then I would like to get quality players in their place.I would also consider goalie for tandem with Levi, but they will probably want another chance for UPL, especially if they improve the defense and we have fewer injuries, I hope this works. I added a solid LHD on the cheap, but maybe tight wad Pegula would spring for a more expensive RHD as well. Looking at the Amerks replays, Kulich could find his way into the line up next year. I am really excited to see him play. Hopefully the Amerks will move onto the next round so I can drive there to watch him. Spot on with Kulich and Savoie near ready next year and Olstund and Rosen not far behind Olofsson could be very valuable trade bait. ONLY 55 skaters scored more than 28 goals last year and only 18 scored faster then 1.6g/60min.

Forbort, Petry and Goodrow would be good adds for the Sabres imo. You are 100% correct Fobort at $3,000,000 is only slightly over paid but Petry is grossly over paid and Goodrow's term is too long

Nicely done. I think other teams fans look at their roster, decide they should clear some cap out, and they land on buffalo as the logical place to dispose of their cap problems. As you've pointed out here, it would take adequate compensation, and that's if ownership would even sign off on it.Thank you completely agree.

With Petry if his 3mill bonus is picked before the trade his actual Salary is lower than his Cap Hit by almost 2mill

Goaltending was a priority last year until it wasn't. There's a lack of synthesis between what Kevyn Adams says and what he actually does. GM speak, if you will. Showing interest in a player doesnt mean they are considering serious upgrades. They could have had Chychrun if they really wanted him. They're not interested in making that kind of deal.

Adams may be effective in building a staff around him, and establishing a more positive culture, but his lack of management experience is showing in his inability to actually get deals done. It's just a bunch of platitudes and excuses. "price was too high for chychrun or ekholm (it wasnt)" "who else could they have traded for" etc. etc. You'll hear more of the same by the end of the summer as well. He'll make his bi-annual basic pick for player trade with minnesota and that for some reason will be enough for fans.

What's 2yrs, won't affect anything next year and the year after his Salary is 5M. Even if you drop his minutes down to 20 and he gives you the same numbers it's not a bad deal. Especially if the Sabres can get a good young D prospect in this draft that could step in after those 2yrs. I don't think any deal for Petry if it were to happen is gonna take place until after FA starts and Buffalo has a better feel for the D structure. But Petry would be a decent 2yr bridge.

i dont care about his salary. A cap hit of 6.25 million in 24-25 is an issue because a couple of big extensions kick in. This limits what they can do. That could be a year where they go for it but have to operate with a reduced cap due to his hit and he'll probably be a 7th D by then.

Its just a bad use of limited resources.

Sabres have 49mill in Cap Space in 24-25. Even if Dahlin and Power take say 19m of that it still gives you plenty of room, especially with some of the ECL they will have.

Well, it's debatable. Usually, what Adams says is what he does. He added Comrie last season, it didn't work out even though Comrie had a good stats with Jets in his last season. Our defense suffered from injuries, especially when there was no Samuelsson.

I agree that Adams should have solved the problem with goalies a long time ago, even immediately after gone Ullmark, but now we have Levi, a great prospect. UPL did not convince me that he can be a stable and good goaltender in the NHL. Buffalo's interest in Chychrun has been reported for a long time, and if Arizona was rumored to have requested Savoie+, I wouldn't have done it either. They still believed in Jokiharju, but it didn't work.

Adams seems to mostly listen to Granato/Karmanos/analysts and scouts and then decide on trades or signings, obviously he's not a very experienced GM in these matters, but he listens to people who are better at it than he is, which is good.

We will see how the off-season develops, whether he adds the top 4 D, which is much needed, whether he adds a goalie or goes into the new season with Levi, UPL and Comrie. I hope for a top 4 D and a goalie, but I think there will only be a top 4 D + maybe some forwards if Okposo and Girgensons don't stay. Maybe more depth defenders.

I have no idea where you are getting this number from. Factoring in extensions for Power, Dahlin and Mittelstadt and then adding in Petry, That's 13 roster spots at 67 million dollars. Assuming the cap jumps to 87 (it wont after the regional TV collapse). Thats 20 mil left over for 10 more roster spots, including goaltending. That's....not good?

Here's the thing, the Savoie ask leak came from who? The Sabres. It didn't come from the coyotes or the any of the league sources. You have to ask yourself, why would the coyotes ask for picks from OTT, but not ask for picks from BUF? Bear in mind, at the time, the Sabres were lower in the standings than the Sens AND Alex Tuch was out. Strictly from a valuation stand point, A pick from the Sabres would have been more valuable than one from the Sens.

It doesn't make any sense for the coyotes to self sabotage like that. The result of the deal tells me that ultimately, the Sabres didn't want to deal that pick for Chychrun. Adams is very good at staying involved in conversations long enough to show the fans he's "doing his job". He's always "making his calls". At what point does this stop being acceptable? If any of us operated this way in our employment, we'd get axed lol.

I don't doubt he listens to his staff, I doubt in his ability to execute what his staff tells him to do. He's got some really smart ppl in his analytics staff. There is absolutely no way those guys were like "yeah Eric Comrie man thats a good idea". Or "yeah totally run it back with UPL" or "yeah the defense is okay as it is". No way, those guys are pushing Adams to make aggressive changes, but he doesn't have it in him.

Top 4 D is very vague. The bar has been set so low that there is going to be so much copium about how adding a fringe guy like Soucy or whatever makes this team a playoff team. It's so annoying because this team could be Tampa, but the fans have become complacent. They'll all show up again for a 9th place run after a meaningless off-season. The worst thing to happen is management making the fans feel like they dont have a voice.

If they don't make serious changes, I pray that the fans lash out like they have in other cities that have since turned it around.

Let me say again, Adams was way over his head when he became GM.
Terrible trades, terrible UFA then along came Karmanos and now he looks brilliant.
All of this is for another day.

Sabres have 49mill in Cap Space in 24-25. Even if Dahlin and Power take say 19m of that it still gives you plenty of room, especially with some of the ECL they will have.
As the cap, next season is easy.
All the GK and D-men are locked up and they need to sign four forward to replace Okposo, Girgenson, Jost and Hinostroza with nearly $20,000,000 of space.
The first three will probably sign for about $6,000,000 total and they could go with a prospect and add only $1,000,000 or a depth forward for more.
Regardless, next season is no problem.

2024-2025 will be a little more difficult.
They have only seven fowards, one defensemen and Levi signed with $38,000,000 commited.
Krebs and Mittelstadt will be looking raises, let's presume they get $7,000,000 together, Girgensons, Okposo and Jost add another $7,000,000 (does not have to be them just place holders and estimated salaries) and Savoie and Kulich crack the line up to add another $2,000,000

So the forwards will account for $54,000,000
Presuming an $85,000,000 cap that leaves $31,000,000 for Dahlin, Power, Jokiharju and three more defensemen.
Even with team friendly contracts Dahlin will get $9,000,000 Power $7,000,000, Jokiharju could reach $4,000,000 but $3,000,000 is more likely.
That leave $10,000,000 for three more defensemen. if one of them is Petry that leaves only $4,000,000 for two more defensemen and a GK.

Adding Petry could create serious cap issues in two years.
He could be a good on ice coach, but Buffalo may not be able to afford him in the second year of his contract.

All of the above cap values are from Cap friendly and do not include any performance bonuses a player may have earned on his ELC.

I'm not sure it came from Sabres. There were rumors about Buffalo's interest in Chychrun 1-1.5 years ago. Again, the Arizona GM seems to have initially requested a huge package, which is why Chychrun was not traded for so long. That doesn't excuse Adams though, because the NHL doesn't only have Chychrun to improve our top 4 D's. Adams hasn't solved that problem yet and it's on him.

Well he's such a GM, he likes to develop the team from the inside and not make a lot of deals and I like that too, the only thing I want is for him to be a little more aggressive and add the right parts sooner rather than later.

We can't know what his employees are saying to him, but then again. Comrie had good analytics and he could have been a goalie who would become a starter, but this did not happen, it happens. He signed Boosh, which looked like a good signing, especially in terms of analytics, but Boosh played with an injury and was recovering. I myself criticized Adams before the season and constantly said that he should have added a goalie and a top 4 RD. Vanecek + Marino were my candidates, they both ended up in New Jersey. It's just that they believed in Jokiharju and I didn't believe in him initially, especially because of his constant injuries and the fact that he's not even the type of defenseman we need with Dahlin, Samuelsson and Power in the top 4.

I agree, it wasn't enough to get into the playoffs and there were a lot of injuries, Dahlin played with an injury and some other players didn't have enough quality depth. I just hope Adams learned a valuable lesson from this and doesn't repeat the situation again. The team should be in the playoffs next season.

                      1) - The rumoured asking price was leaked by sabres reporters. An attempt to save face

2)- Comrie had an 18 game sample size. Boosh didnt have good analytics when he signed. He had okay ones in ARZ and was pretty bad in Toronto. His analytics were bad here too. He's not good

                      3) - I just dont know how many more excuses we can take from this group. Sabres fans seem to have endless patience. Im pretty much done with them if they dont take advantage of what is there.

Take Girgensons, Okposo out. You will probably have Savoie and Kulich taking spots. Funny a 6.75m D can't be added, but a 8 or 9mill winger can. One year is not gonna kill them. I want younger and good to play next to Power, unless we get lucky we are gonna be paying close to that anyway for a Top 3-4D

CapFriendly Estimated Cap Space 49 Million 24-25
