A real nonsensical trade. Tavares isn't waiving. And if Tavares is such bad value as you suggest....why would the Wings pay him 9.5m and give two great picks to obtain him?

I dont think hes bad value, hes a PPG C but hes just overpaid and the leafs need a shake up.

Won't the Wings and ROR be much better off is ROR signed for 6.5m X 2 Wings get 3m in cap and keep their picks.

I'd take ROR but I think he'll take less to stay in Toronto.

Nothing wrong with Tavares. But taking his 9.5 mil AAV and giving up assets for him doesn't make sense for a rebuilding Detroit. He'll be 33 in September.

It really depends what detroits thinking. I made assumptions for them which arent fair but I do think Yzerman wants to start being competitive and no longer wants to rebuild. Regardless if its Detroit or a different team I think there will be suitors for JT, maybe we have to take a contract back but as long as its less and still a solid player im okay with it.

The hard part is getting him to wave but if we tell him we really want to move on I dont think he will want to stay in a place hes not wanted.

JT is from Toronto and with only 2 years left on his NTC contract he isn't up rooting his family. imo

I don't think Detroit is that close to even wanting to be competitive. If they were really pushing to be really competitive they wouldn't have traded Hronek and bertuzzi. I think the idea is to improve but I think Yzermam wants his drafted team to be the team to run with.

That's why Tavares signed as UFA in Toronto, when apparently he turned down more $$$$ from other teams.
From what I hear, Tavares is from an "old time" Italian family. Lots of visible love, and they want to live close by. It isn't so much he's from Toronto, it's the important people in his live are in Toronto (and Oakville)
