Why stop there. Why not ask for the 5th OA pick and Caufield as well. What a joke!

Nah. Keep Pylon Stanley. I'm sure the Winnipeg airport can use him.

Oh wow the Devils trade. Yikes. You ok, Bud?

Welcome to Cap Friendly! 🙂

Very ambitious returns for all those trades. They all heavily favour Winnipeg. Also Detroit doesn't need another left handed pylon.

Can't think of a worse way for Ottawa to spend that kind of cap space. Pionk is a 3rd pair D on The Sens. Impossible to justify that kind of money when they're gonna be right up on the cap

Now now. Let's not go overboard! Devils add 50% franchise ownership.

Detroit passes, Detroit like Winnipeg LD is their strength and have an over abundance of. Detroit would gladly take Neal Pionk off of your hands though.

Detroit has less than zero interest in, or use for Stanley. Look elsewhere.

Not I! I was thinking there must be a way for us to trade up to 2023 1st OA so we can trade it for PLD!

Hmmm...yeah, it would still cost us Dach on top of that 1st overall. At that point, I'm only doing it if WPG acquires Goodrow on the side, and dump him off on us in the Dubois deal. Otherwise, it's just not worth it, you know. cool

I’m just going to say I’ve seen a couple tweets from jets hockey websites and people i follow that are this out to lunch on who these prospects are.

Mercer just potted 30 goals on an ELC.

Nemec was taken 2nd overall and plays a premium position as a rhd…. Thinking you get him nevermind him plus will be an offer they can’t refuse scenario. Helle, Ehlers both with 50% retention, DeMelo, Helle extension done in principle, taking back Vanacek as a cap dump… is probably what you’re looking at for Nemec. There will probably be Devils fans that still say no.

Personally I think Nemec and Holtz are surplus and could be moved but I understand the Devils do t want to.

This goes for everyone bashing the Helley trade, what do you think a year-in-year-out top 3 goalie is going to cost? Goalies that are that good very rarely get traded and when they do it's for a lot. And getting a 40 goal scorer at 3 mill for a year in Schief is very valuable. He is money in the bank 30 goals and point a game in most seasons. Sure he is probably a bit of a jerk in the locker room but when did NHL teams ever care about that if you're good. Schmid has been very good in a small sample size but I wouldn't put his value at a blue-chip goalie prospect level. And isn't there a chance Sharangovich doesn't even get qualified because of his QO? What would have Carey Price gotten in a trade at 29 years old? Because that is what helley is right now.

There are three comps with varying returns for the Jets trading Hellebuyck:
- Cory Schneider, at two years remaining of his deal at the time got the Canucks #9 overall.
- Kuemper (50% retention), rental goalie for a cup run got the Yotes a 1st rd pick and 2nd/3rd tier level prospect.
- Fleury, reigning vezina winner dealt to the Blackhawks for future considerations

This indicates that it will be very difficult to trade a world top 5 goalie for anything close to what you're suggesting.
Nemec is probably the best currently drafted prospect in the world, these guys are never traded.

As for Scheifele, I agree that he's good but Mercer is at least as good as him at this point in time, if not better already. Mercer will certainly be the better player between the two come October and, unlike Scheifele, he's under team control for the foreseeable future whereas Scheifele is a rental.
The only thing dealing Mercer for Scheifele accomplishes is getting a whole lotta older and setting 2m worth of cap space on fire.

I think the closest thing to a comp is when Miller got traded from Buffalo as a rental.

They got a goalie back (Halak), a 1st, a 3rd the following year, Stewart (former 18 oa pick that was a 50 point winger at that point) and carrier (was a recent 2nd round pick)

So if we wanted to mirror that return it would be Vanacek, 2024 1st, 2024 3rd, Casey as the recent 2nd round pick and then Sharangovich.

Given the bidding war, I’d want to consolidate into less pieces of higher value.
