There it is everyone, Guentzel’s name is rumored on the trade market that means every Pens fan automatically has to dose up the adderall and head on to capfriendly and spam their ACGM’s away!

Jokes aside it’ll be interesting to see if we keep him or what the deal is…. Because I’m not bout a 7 year extension, he’s already almost 30

Guentzel wants 8 x 8.5+, will be tougher to move/buyout— plus the staleness

He's better and more productive and home grown. I get moving him if you're blowing it up but to add a guy like Bert instead I don't like.

MTL is rebuilding. That trade makes no sense for them, and is too much to move up 15 spots anyways.

Value is ok but Van pass on Rutta.

The price may be a little steep to move up 25 spots, however this is the exact type of deal i would expect the habs to make. Yes they are building but they have a solid amount of prospects as this point and are looking to add more impactful pieces. I could see this trade being the first step to a Dach like deal. Move up to get a more attractive 1st to then flip for a specific player. I also think Hughes will explore all options as far as moving from 5th to 4th or 3rd given that the 5th pick is most likely going to be left with Michkov, and getting a better first could help with that although its still a longshot.

Why trade for Nylander then? Who also has 1 year left and will be asking for an extension and raise?

And who said Guentzel wants 8x8.5? I haven't seen that yet

Depending on who's available, MTL could probably take this deal. We need quality over quantity.

I like Bertuzzi, but he is going to get more than 5.5 million. I think he wants a long-term contract in the 6-7 million range. Also, doesn't help that he has an injury history. Overall, though, I like this line up. I don't like having Bertuzzi over Guentzel (I do understand your point about the extension being an issue). And I don't love having Varlamov.

I should have said 15 spots... But I still think MTL is happy with 5, 29 and 37 + Ylonen and a 4th over 5 and 14.

I guess if they love the player, but its a very steep price: 29, 37, 4th and Ylonen to move up 15 spots.

Yeah, but I think it's a price the Habs could afford. Ylonen is a very nice and versatile winger, but we have many of those in the pipeline...I'm not sure his future is in Montreal. If someone like Reinbacher falls to that spot, Habs would take it for that price.

I disagree - habs will gladly jump 14 spots to get one of the great prospect at 14. Habs have plenty of picks and prospects at every level: we need quality over quantity at this point... Laval is about to be full soon.

Unpopular opinion here but I’m not getting why people are beating down the door to trade rutta. His numbers last year weren’t pretty but he seemed to constantly be the victim of a horrendous partner whether that was Dumoulin or second half Jeff Petry. You put him next to someone like Ty smith you might have something decent there. I wouldn’t give up assets just to move him.

if they were just going to select at 14 then yes i agree, but if that 14th can be used as a key piece of a dach like trade then theres a good chance it could be worth it. I do agree though on its own i dont know if its is worth it but it does bring opportunities.

I agree with your overall point - but Rutta never played with Petry in the second half of the season. Petry also wasn't an anchor

Over the last 5 seasons he has 159 goals, 333 points in 331 games. His rate of production is equal to Brayden Point. It's flat out stupid to trade that away because people are worried it might be a bad contract during our rebuilding years.
