DAL cant afford Petry, and doubtful at full cap hit you get a 3rd or better back, never mind the fact that carter and petry would have to waive their NTCs

Don't think we should be paying a 1st to dump Carter, or anyone. It's just one more year

YES! I don't think there is a single reason why Wings would not do this.

Wings accept but don't think PIT is in any position to be giving up 1sts

I don't see why Pittsburgh would do this either, but this is about what it would cost for Detroit to consider it... it just doesn't make sense, as Pittsburgh could just waive him and it would only cost them about 1m more than this move...

They can't waive him with his no move clause I believe. If they buy him out he is the same cap hit. His contract sucks for them.

Oh dang, you're right, he does have a NMC... I thought he only had a NTC, oof... they're better off just riding out the final year of his deal...

You’ll probably have to pay to move off that Petry contract. I’d take that cap hit if you threw in two assets, prospect, pick or player

The only thing I could see, if he refused to waive, is threaten to buy him out. The cap hit is the same but it makes a roster spot for someone better. The difference is instead of Carter making $3M in cash, which is his salary, he would only get $1M this year and $1M next year. So theoretically he would lose $1M in cash and have to wait an extra year for the second million. So he could lose on also possible gains of having that extra money. He might have incentive to waive if that was the case but that is a bit of a D!CK move.

DET accepts, PIT shouldn't do it though. They need to refill the pipe, or at least save their 1st round pick to reload (if that's their path forward with Sid, Geno, and Letang). It's 1 year of Carter's contract.

We're not trading Matt Roy, especially for a draft pick, especially for a future second.
