Consider me intrigued... Moreso if Elvis were shipped elsewhere because I'm ready for a stop gap (Varlamov?) until #SilvosSZN.

I don't thiiiink the Canucks should do this. Carlsson is immensely good, but Merzlinkins contract is too much of an anchor, and he is too much of a downgrade. They would be stuck with him for 4 more seasons..

I would just use Merzlikins as the stop gap. Him and Silovs are both Latvian so he will be a good mentor. Silovs will be cheap for a while and they can tandem.

It's a big swing but could set them up for long term success with Petey and Carlsson down the middle if Carlsson really hits. Have to offer a lot and take back some question marks like Merzlikins in order to move up and draft a guy with as much talent as Carlsson.

Pettersson costs at minimum 2 of Johnson/Jiricek/3rd OA plus one or two other solid pieces

There is no way in hell Columbus is doing this when they could have a cost-controlled franchise centerman.

Change 3OA to the LAK 1st and maybe add a 3rd and this could be close to fair value. Still don't think Columbus does it though because of Miller's age and contract length.

I might do Johnson, 3OA. and Ceulemans for Petey, but I'm a little scared by the idea of giving up Johnson because I think he's headed towards being a superstar.

JT Miller has negative value to the jackets. Not a chance in hell they consider this. Petey is only piece the Canucks have that get the 3OA so don’t bother unless he’s included

Must be a real shame that CBJ signed Gaudreau then for 1.75mil more than Miller. Seems dumb to sign a negative value UFA. To each their own I guess.

I'm intruigued by the bones of that trade, but there's no way you're prying 3OA from Jarmo, and I just can't see him having an interest in JT Miller because of his age and the relative age of the rest of the Jackets (everyone but Jonny and Jenner are under 25). Maybe something like Demko+Raty (no picks required) for Elvis+22OA+Roslovic+(insert further negotiation here to balance).

Johnny will be two years younger than JT when his deal expires

They're the same age (5 months apart) and Johnny's contract finishes a year before Miller's.

Do you consider Johnny a negative value asset to CBJ?

Missing the point. Gaudreau’s contract is two years shorter which makes his better bc the less risk of regression. Sorry to say this but in order to get rid of Miller’s contract, Van will have to eat at least 30% of it to get teams interested in offering something of value.

But that isn't the problem with this trade I'm sure Vancouver would do this in a heartbeat. The problem is getting CBJ to accept it.

as long as he is traded after his bonus paid it isn't all that bad.

Maybe, I think CBJ would accept it.

- Miller fits with Gaudreau's timeline, and hes a huge upgrade on Roslovic.

- Demko fixes their goalie situation immediately, and they get to dump a massive anchor.

- Raty is a strong prospect, middle 6 C potential.

All for the cost of moving down 8 spots, and while Carlsson looks to be a stud, they have a massive prospect pool already and will get an impact forward at 11 still.

A team playing Miller at 1c is going nowhere at all. A team with Leo Carlsson might go somewhere in 2025. And good luck selling that trade to a fanbase who hoped for Bedard and then fell to third after the worst season in their 23-year history. Not worth the PR nightmare.

It's not 2 years shorter it's one year shorter lol. Nobody wants to answer the question of whether Gaudreau is a negative value asset which speaks volumes.

Gaudreau is a much better player than Miller. Miller’s contract is not good. Maybe he defies the odds and is productive throughout, but other teams are not going to ante up on a contract that odds are will turn into an albatross. The Jackets aren’t shopping Gaudreau…

I don't think Gaudreau's contract is negative value yet., but may be in the last 2 years of his contract.
My biggest issue with Miller is that he has been playing more wing than Center since he went to Vancouver.
He is a good player, but is probably better suited to stay on the wing and the Jackets don't really need any wings.
I think we would rather take our chances on Carlsson or Johnson panning out as a 1C.
