Lucic is way too slow to play on the Avs. If the Avs are to get Kuzy, they’re getting him retained, otherwise it’s pure cap hell from then on.

I will be astonished if Willander drops below 20.
I'd love for Detroit to draft him @ 17 and I can only invision him as a Red Wing.
It's more likely he's gone by 11 than available in the 30s.

All of DET, CGY, OTT, BUF, VAN, and STL pick before 35 and could choose Willander. Maybe not in top 12, but if Reinbacher and ASP are gone before 10; who knows.

I like the idea of trading down from 27 to get an extra pick but I think if were getting 35 it would take more than a late 3rd on top, more like a early 3rd or late 2nd imo

I dont think we need that many UFAs and I dont see how some of them even make sense for the Avs organization. Lucic especially doesnt make sense for a speedy forechecking team and many of those other guys would just be taking AHL ice time away from younger players

The Kuznetsov trade is a massive overpayment. Byram is completely off limits for a player of Kuznetsov's caliber, they are not even in the same ballpark. Newhook is a possibility but I think it makes more sense for Colorado to give picks and prospects that arent yet NHL contributors

I can see Avs doing Newhook for Kuzy at 50%. Picks in this draft imo are more valuable. “Not in the same ballpark” also? I mean Kuzy is one year removed from have 78p in 79gp. He’s still a stellar 1b center.

that kuzy trade remains the worst trade involving the avs i've seen this offseason. They do not pick up the phone unless it involves Sandin and picks at a minimum

The Avs wouldn’t trade either of Newhook or Byram straight up for Kuz. MacDermid Hunt is by far the worst defensive tandem in the NHL. This is something and it isn’t good.

Funny guy. The WORST season of Kuznetsov’s career is only slightly worse than the BEST season of Newhook’s career. If you wouldn’t even trade Newhook for Kuznetsov, we’re done here. The Capitals aren’t going to be doing someone favors by trading a guy with 1B/2A Center production for whatever trash you think you’ll offer. Kuznetsov won a Cup and was Top 5 in Playoff scoring that year, the Caps have no reason to give him away for your garbage.

It's obvious that Washington wants Kuzy off their books. It's an expensive contract for a player you just admitted has been replaced and is now your 3C. You don't just get the Avs' two best RFAs for 2 years of control of a player on the back half of their career. The offer is going to be a 1st round and a single prospect unless retention is involved.

Give me a break. He doesn’t play defense, has questionable off ice decision making and had a 30% production decrease in the year he turned 31. COL isn’t trading a top pairing and worst case scenario 3C cost controlled 22yr olds for that and a larger cap hit. Yeah the Avs don’t do that at all.

Idk... On one hand that is a pretty good deal on paper for the 27th overall pick, but on the other hand, the level of talent available at 27 and 35 will be pretty darn close due to the depth of this draft.

I guess as a draft day deal if CHI really feels they need to move up there to get someone there, sure, let's do it.

Yeah, no one ever said this because it’s not true. It’s arguable Kuznetsov is still ahead of Strome and is, in fact, the Caps 1C. Both are clearly ahead of Backstrom at this point. That is not debatable. And yes the offer will be a 1st and prospect. If there is retention on Kuznetsov, the prospect will be Newhook or better.

Referencing Kuznetsov’s “off ice decision making” which was years ago and got basically no response from the NHL is pathetic.

Face it. COL does not have a viable 2C for next season. Kuznetsov is likely one of the best, if not the best, 1/2C available.

Then why is every other Caps ACGM trying to move him?

There are other 2Cs available. If the caps have this ask, the Avs simply decline. Caps can remain in mediocrity if they so wish

COL will force feed the 2C to Newhook long before trading him for Kuz, thinking COL would include Byram is idiotic. And considering it’s likely PLD or Scheifle will be made available and ROR IS available at a likely lower cap and having to give away nothing makes your claim dubious at best.
