I’d pull the trigger as a Hawks fan. I mean, two top 5 picks this year?!

That would be an interesting offer, if ANA could actually get their hands on those other 1sts from MTL, but I think it still falls short of being something "they can't refuse". Gibson isn't interesting either. We have goalie prospects that we are currently trying to work through, and are in no way in a position to bring in a goaltender at this time.

RHP-Suzuki-Dach
Caufield-Zegras-Anderson

If MTL ain't picking Michkov & they know Smith won't be available at 5, MTL take this

https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/
If we use the chart in this link as a reference, the first overall pick is worth 1000 points and the picks you are sending to CHI are worth about 1450 points. Now that value of the first overall pick is based on average, but Bedard is predicted to FAR exceed the value of your average first overall pick. Not to mention the, at least, 8 years of control that comes with drafting him. Then add whatever Gibson is worth, which isn't much to a team like CHI that is rebuilding. Not as much as maybe a team that is trying to "win now".

So, I doubt ANA would even offer this, and I think CHI might have a hard time accepting as well, just because of Bedard's value coupled with how this goes against the grain of Kyle Davidsons vision. That pick just isn't going to be moved, to be blunt. But, if there IS something we can do to get that 2nd overall pick from you, please let us know. haha. jk.

I dont disagree with anything you're saying in theory as from an analytic POV totally factoring out GM's and their habits or if that piece complete's the build ,ext
While this deal may fall short if ANA upgraded that 3rd first round pick the FLA pick to a top 10-12 pick i think it starts to make more sense.

If i was giving up Bedard personally i'd want more then Gibson as good as he is.
I'd want

Dostal (Legit Starter to build on)
ANA 2nd OA (Michkov the only other Elite player in the draft close to Bedards level or Fantilli who's big, skilled and #2 best Center behind Bedard.)
MTL 5th OA (Reinbacher ,Michkov or Smith)
FLA 31st OA upgraded to a top 10 to at the latests top 12 pick OA( lets say 8th to 12th OA Leonard,Dvorsky or Perrault or ASP)
CHI 35th OA pick (Hrabal or Bonk ,ext)

Hawks wouldn't have any interest in Gibson. Replace him in the deal w/ Colangelo, Luneau or Warren and the Hawks definitely consider this.

Definitely. And I would probably want a roster player as well as a prospect on top of the picks. Dostal is interesting, but I think CHI would be looking at skaters before goalies. More specifically, RHD and Forwards.

The impact of Zegras+Fantilli/Carlson will have far exceeds what Bedard is likely able to do. As much as I wanted to see the reunion of Bedard with his best buddy McTavish, I wouldn't give up Zegras + 2OA to accomplish it.

Montreal actually say no, 2019 was a very deep draft and zegras actually isn't in the top 5 on a re-draft. This year the draft is even deeper and we got a top 5 pick so no Montreal ain't doing this when you want them to add even more on top of the pick

If . If .if. if. We have a GM who clearly has a plan, they'll draft the BPA and the top 5 this draft is LOADED with talent.

P.s. i love how everyone seem to know how the top 4 will go when last year proved that fans know nothing !

Lets just wait and see the top 10 from bob Mackanzie who's clearly the front runner when it comes to draft accuracy

Don't be surprised if one of the top 4 teams decide to go with a defenseman

Literally not one fan here or on twitter had nemec go no.2 or wright at 4 and not the first C getting picked

Tbo I think the Habs say yes, a foward core of Zuke, Cole, Z, Slaf, Dach and Anderson is scaryyyy
But Chi says probably no unless you change Gibson for Dostal

Weird trades in my opinion but value wise it's kinda good

Anyone who listened to Hughes knew he wasnt choosing Wright.
I was pissed about it cause he pulled the same **** as this year he is with Michkov.

He steered the media onto Reinbacher a name that they hadnt mentioned as a top 5 option until Hughes dropped it.
Before Hughes pushed him as a top 5 option he was ranked #2 RD 15th-20th OA behind Axel Sandin-Pellika.
The original questions were "Michkov, Smith or Dvorsky"
Then suddenly over time Hughes steered Dvorsky out of the conversation and Reinbached into it.

Why?

He's evil
I think he see's SJS RD situation is so much worse then ours youth wise and is trying to bait SJS into passing on one of the top forwards that falls out of the top 3.
Last year everyone heard him name dropping Slaf before the draft then he snubbed him taking Wright and Nemec for breakfast but not Slafkovsky or others.
He played head games up until the end trying to get paid to draft Slafkovsky but no one was willing to trade up because he was Transparent as hell about his intent/focus on Slafkovsky

What everyone wanted was Wright
But we were prepared for him to pass on a sure thing in our eyes in Wright.
Turns out Hughes was right because while Slaf struggled it was no where near Wrights Struggles.
This year we feel the same about Michkov myself included, he'll likely pass on him too for Size and Skill

Yes and No
Wright , Cooley and Nemec were most people top 3
Slaf wasnt even in some analysts top 5 actually but most had him in the 2-4 spot range

I think Cooley not going #2 OA was more surprising then MTL choosing Slafkovsky after how much Hughes talked to him then snubbed him at combine.
This year Canadiens said no Prospect Dinner while ARZ invited Reinbacher and Smith among others.
He's further playing head games going against tradition losing valuable time to get to know future prospects before a draft because he's already decided.
He's got people reacting to him over nothing and its genius

"He's evil" lol.

He made the right call and drafted slafkovsky and a year later slafkovsky still goes first on a re-draft and wright is probably outside the top 5

Not saying he didnt make the right call
I said he played mind games when he did it.
He 100% made the right call even if i wanted Wright to play behind Suzuki
Getting Slafkovsky and Dach , i was happy after like maybe 30 minutes of being pissed until the trade for Dach.
Even then i heard "MTL Trades Romanov" and i was flipping out "MTL trades 13th OA for Dach" and suddenly im like "Fu*king Genius !"

He got what he wanted by destabilizing the draft selection process.
Suddenly #1 is going #4 and all the teams behind are picking players they thought would be gone.
This laid the foundation for MTL to be able to trade that 13th OA pick for Dach by increasing the odds Nazar would fall 3-4 spots after Hughes picked Slafkovsky.
Without Nazar being there CHI wouldnt have made that same deal and MTL wouldnt have gotten Dach for what i consider a steal just 2-3 years after going 3rd OA

I think Hughes is trying to play mind games again just with SJS this time.
I think its working too IMO
