Montreal finally gets real

Created by: Azura0055
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2023
Published: Jun. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montreal finally realizes that a bag of pucks for a player they want ‘why pay anything, he’s free in 12 month’ isn’t going to cut it. They outbid LA.
Helly gives the Sabres the piece to get them into the playoffs. Levi becomes depth until he takes over from the master.

Schiefele goes to Boston for a goalie and cap relief.

26 gets to pick his team. Thank you for the memories on the ice, and contributions to the community off it.

Pionk fills the second pair top 4 D whole on Detroit for a reasonable cost.

Jets bring in size and veteran presence from the UFA market. ROR is a leader, a potential overpay for a mid-30s player, but the Jets need to fill in two C holes. Gudas is what Stanley will never be.

Raanta gives the Jets a 1A/1B to replace Helly.

Two things not happening here, the Sabres trading Savoie or giving a 30 year old goaltender a 7 year contract.

Overly optimistic returns for the Jets. First Ullmark isn't waiving for the Jets. Can't think of any team that would want to resign Hellebuyck to a seven year contract. Lots of good UFA goalies available this summer. Heck the Sabres could offer sheet Swayman cheaper than that proposed trade. The current edition of the Jets isn't a place where those UFAs would sign.

All these seem to massively favor the Jets. I think Friedman has said that the Jets would do PLD for Dach 1 for 1, but the Canadians don't want to give that much up.

Sabres are not giving up Savoie. I could see maybe this year's 1st and Ostlund l, but I can't imagine them moving much more

Typical Habs fan. Perfect example of the endowment effect.
I agree that the Habs won’t trade for PLD, but PLD is also unlikely to ever wear that jersey. Dach is good, lots of potential, but he still needs to develop to reach his potential.

2 seconds and a prospect for a 6 mil a year dman who doesn't play like one? We just signed Chiarot to that insane contract not making the same mistake twice

PLD is plateauing at around 65 points. Dach just got breakout year number 1, being only 22 years old. He still has 3 big years of growth and he was on a 53-point pace this year. His game is overall more enticing than PLD with the size and physical, but especially the compete level that Dubois lacks. This is reasons not to trade Dach for PLD 1 for 1, and ignoring the fact that PLD said he isn't playing another game in a Jets jersey decreases his value a lot. Adding a 1st and Roy is just ridiculous.

It does look like you’ll get you wish on that one.

Was just having fun trying to top the offer LA appears to be making. MTL-Jets we’re never a good trade fit anyways. PLD as a playoff rental would net a 1st plus.

Develop into a 63 point scorer like PLD. LMAO

Its called a hard cap. PLD will be making close to 3 times Dach's cap hit over the next 3 years. That means something. PLD isnt close to Dach's value in the market or have you been sleeping through all the retained money over the past few days?

We're better off letting him go to another team then giving up Dach, Roy and a 1st tyoe trade for him. After all we are still in a rebuild

That late first has a less than 50% chance of becoming a top 9 NHL player in 4 years, so I wouldn’t put much value in that. As for Roy, solid, potential middle 6 player. PLD vs Dach… PLD has better hands and has already shown he can dominate the best players in the game. He lacks consistency. Dach has the potential to play a strong power forward C role, and has consistency at a fair bit lower level of play this far. It’s a classic risky trade for both teams, that’s why Habs fans hate it so much. And I find their quick dismissals funny.

Why pay 8 million for a 63 point player when Dach is on track to become that same player on a much cheaper cap hit?

Pionk is a great second pair D and can run the PP. a perfect compliment to Chariot as well. He’s physical, good passer, and has played hurt most of the past 16 months. Dismiss him all you want, but to acquire a 2nd pair D with term, the going rate is two seconds plus. I actually think he’d be a really good fit for the Wings. Don’t want to see him go, but tossed out that trade to see all the ‘not going to happen’ comments.

You're making too much sense. Now ignore the hard cap. Then ignore the fact that PLD wants out and the trade still is trolling.

Hands is one of the dumbest arguments you can give. Without other important factors such as IQ and physical, hands are basically useless other than in a shootout or 1 v 1 opportunity. Look at Drouin. He has amazing hands but I'm sure you would be mad if WPG signed Drouin to a 5-year 5 million dollar deal because he got good hands. Not saying PLD only has hands, but if that is your selling argument for PLD and Dach trade, I'll pass. As for the domination part, no, he isn't a dominant player. He lacks drive. He is smart, but if he gave his 100% he would be better and the fact that he doesn't is concerning. I much rather bet on Dach reaching his 75+ point potential and keeping him than trading for a 70-point guy. Worst comes to Worst, Dach has no more growth and he is a decent 50 point 2C

On track… maybe…. And I do think PLD has a higher ceiling if he ever figures out his compete issues.

If you think a player has the potential to become what another player already is, that implies risk he won’t. Therefore, to compensate for that risk, you would need to add additional assets as compensation.

I’m guessing you’ve never actually watched PLD play. I’ll forgive you for that. He has very high hockey IQ, his passing ability both backhand and forehand is very good. He has the ability to bulldoze his way through the offensive zone with control of the puck.

In short, he is NOT Drouin.

Never said PLD didn't have IQ, actually I even agree with you, he does have good IQ. But my argument is basically that PLDs drive is too low for his offense production to rise, so I rather wait another year or 2 and see Dach become better than PLD, and for probably a cheaper price tag as well.
