I dont think were gonna see him have another accident like the one he did in WSH as if u look at his career guy usually gives yah 60 + games

Look at the contract details. He only counts for 775k against the cap and has the potential to earn 3.25m in bonuses.

If he isnt healthy then he doesnt get the bonuses, if he is healthy and hits his bonuses then the 3.25m would count towards the bonus overages for next year where the cap is already going up.

775k?!

Depends on the bonus 4.05 granted 3.2 can be differed if gotten and you didn't have the Cap remaining to absorb.

I guess that would be the deciding factor whether it's a good contract or not. I do like the way it's structured though.

Regardless, the fact that the bonus money would come out of next years cap makes it an easy Oilers W

Does it though? It's not like Edmonton will magically have more cap space next year. I do like that it's performance related because there's risk he's not the same player.

The team wont magically have more space next year but the cap is projected to up around 4m so at worst theyre spending that money from next year on this season. Even if he's not the same player then theyre paying 775k total on a defensively responsible forward to play in the bottom 6, there is no downside for Edmonton.

If he plays like a 4m player then he's compensated as such, if he plays like a league min player then he gets paid accordingly as well.

Risky in that if Brown hits the bonuses he's gonna take up most if the cap increase next season

Someone Offersheet Bouchard NOW! It'd be so FUNNY!

Why? What about signing a guy for $775k makes now a good time for an offer sheet?

I love Brown. But that’s a high AAV. Only one year I guess. At least he is back with his pal Hyman.

Huh?

This is why you need to understand the details before posting. It’s 775k. The bonuses are pushed to when the cap rises next year!

if he hits all those bonuses, edm is screwed under cap next year, and that could be what pushes mcdavid out

The cap is going up. You go for it in the window you don’t think about worse case scenario and try to overpay a bunch of middle 6 players like the Yzerplan.

Whatever condition it is he will meet it via McDavid

If he doesn't perform then the AAV is low. If he performs well, the AAV is worth it.

Could be both great and terrible depending on the clauses for the performance bonuses. The cap bonuses will come in the 24/25 season cap right?

Smart from the Oilers to get him on bonuses since they don't have capspace.

If he gets injured, it won't cost anything. If he's healty, gonna help a lot during the playoffs and the caphit will be shovelled into next season.

He gets a $3,225,000 bonus if he plays 10 total games.

So his cap hit will end up at $4,000,000 (or he won't play at all).

Most of his cap hit will probably carry over onto next years cap though.

Only the 775k counts towards this years cap regardless of what happens with the bonuses. They’ll apply next year.
