First, why would the blues do this? Buchnevic is not as good as Willy but younger & cheaper and matches up time line better.
Why would leafs do this? Parayko contract is brutal, no thank you

The audacity - Pesce is Denis Potvin all of a sudden according to canes fans 😅😂. Not many wingers that can score 40+ goals a year; a whole bunch of 2nd pairing dman that are good defensively but don’t contribute on offense.

Isles have 0 cap, they are not taking jankrok or paying a 2nd for him.

Jarnkrok is good defensively, can chip in 15 goals, is cheap, signed long term, so he has good value and the Islanders like those types of players. They just signed Engvall for 7 years.

Thats rough for a retooling/rebuilding Blues. And i know theres reports saying Nylander is after 10 mil... but thats nutts to me. I dont think he should even be getting 9. 8.75 seems like a solid number for Willy

When the cap goes up by a lot in a few years that contract will look better.

Isles have no use for him even if we had cap space to burn.

Blues decline. Buch is under control for younger and is cheaper. Parayko is still the blues best defensemen. Doesn't make any sense from our perspective

they have no cap space for jarnkrok and he is a cap dump for you in this situation, why would they pay for him

TML has put themselves over the salary cap barrel and thinking they are getting some huge return just isn’t going to happen because GM’s leverage their positions and TML has no leverage.

Blues get the best player in the trade. There's no prospects involved so the future of the Blues is protected. Armstrong was looking to ship out a defenceman a week ago, Krug was the guy going to Philly, but it could be Parayko as well, so he's still trying to reshape the blueline and save money there.

I think there are good pieces for a trade between both teams that both sides covet. Leafs are not interested in prospects and the Blues want to avoid a long rebuild, Armstrong cited the Kings as an example of a team he's emulating. So Nylander would fit his timeline.

Lot's to unpack here. For starters buch is under control for 2 seasons at a cheap rate and we will need that cap space. Second he will most likely be cheaper than Nylander and don't think the blues want to deal with the headache of getting Nylander an extension after Nylander sat out half a season to get the contract he wants. Also the blues wanted to move Krug because he is not worth his cap hit. They wanted to bring in Sanheim to play with Parayko. Nowhere has it been stated by blues writers that the blues want to move Parayko. Teams have called to see if he is available but he is the defensemen they want to keep the most. They have been trying to move other defensemen to get a partner for Parayko so they can bump Leddy down to the 2nd pair. So getting Brodie for Parayko doesn't really help them now and since Brodie is 33 he isn't going to be much help in 2-3 years when the blues aim to compete. If the blues trade Parayko it will either be for a younger defensemen or they are tearing it down and rebuilding from the bottom because he is too valuable to the blues in the minutes and role he plays. Basically it's a trade that doesn't fit the blues needs now or in the future roster wise or cap space wise

In addition to what he said, I take exception with the notion that Nylander is the best player in the trade. Don't agree with that at all.
