Why didn't he sign with TOR?

They could use more grit, imo.

Couldn't the Leafs have just signed him instead of Reaves? Sigh....

Great signing! he will bring so much to Carolina. We needed the grit, not to mention he is just a fun player to watch.

He's not very good at much (except taking penalties). Plays an aggressive style of hockey though which is entertaining.

Because they added Reaves, Bertuzzi, and Domi? Lol. If anything, some more grit on defense would be nice. But they have no use for Lemieux up front.

Some smart people on here clearly since it's a 50/50 split lmao. Very harmless signing, and will probably not make the lineup, but when needed he will be a tough guy. At best he cracks the lineup, at worst he's in the ahl, good signing.

For everyone that said no to this, should think again. There is no issue to signing a depth grit player on a low low contract. Low risk, high reward. Good signing.

Maybe they signed him to keep Bunting in line? 1 dive = 1 postgame bite.

My guess is he's a specialist that only plays in case of injury or against a team like the Islanders or Panthers... We will probably pick up another depth piece before the season starts

I can't say it's a bad signing at that price and for only one year -- you can never have too much depth -- but I can't see him cracking the lineup unless somebody is injured, and in that case they might be better off calling up a young guy to see what he can do. There's no room for a guy who's strictly an enforcer in today's NHL.

I don’t disagree that Carolina needs to get tougher, but the point I was trying to make is that the days of having a guy sitting on a bench who you can just send out when you need to make something happen or keep somebody on the other team in line are over. In today’s NHL, you need four effective lines. You can’t afford to dress a guy who doesn’t have enough hockey ability to play a regular shift on one of those four lines. Team toughness comes from having players who play a physical game while also contributing in other ways.
