NYI paid a 2nd rd pick to dump Bailey with 1yr x 5 mil. Shouldn’t cost TOR anymore than that in a worst case scenario.

A first and having to take back 2mil of Mrazek is too much

Facts. Even if Bedard is miraculously better than McDavid in one season we still need to keep tanking to get a team together…

I came here thinking this was gonna be about Kurashev. I've been refreshing my twitter feed all day waiting for word that we probably won't even get today.

It’s better to give someone else a try or more NHL ice time because Kurashev is not in our long term plans. Let’s be real…he’s a third liner that can provide some scoring

Yeah. Maybe, maybe not. What does that have to do with anything, though? Even if he isn't a part of CHI's future, he is part of CHI's "right now". At the very least, I am interested to see how the whole arbitration process unfolds with him, and I'm also excited to see what they end up doing with him. There have been much steeper developmental curves in the NHL before. He could easily step in and be a huge piece for us next season and, if he still isn't part of the future, he could bring back some nice assets at the TDL or next summer. Personally, I enjoy the entire process regardless of outcome.

Who else are they gonna give a try this year, anyway? It might as well be him.

I’d argue that Mrazek is more of a cap dump than Murray is, and you want a 1st in return? Yikes.

I like this in response to the MANY MANY stupid proposals I've seen from Leafs fans thinking the Hawks would pay for Murray or that a 6th round pick gets the job done.

News flash, this is what's known as Newton's third law. For every action (stupid trade proposal) there's an opposite and equal reaction.

Well the Blackhawks do have Cole Guttman, Colton Dach, Jake Wise, Landon Slaggert, Antti Saarela who’ve put some time in and deserve a look possibly?

Jake Wise isn't getting a contract, Slaggert is going back to college, Guttman I could definitely see making the roster but I don't think we have to choose between him or Kurashev, Saarela is coming over for his first season in NA Pro, I do have high hopes for both Saarela and Dach but they will likely play in the AHL next season unless they blow the roof off in training camp.

First, this is a joke and just a reflection of the awful offers TOR fans propose a million times a day. So, making any arguments doesn't really matter all that much.

But...

Second, I could definitely argue the opposite, especially at 50% retention on Mrazek. Mrazek has been marginally healthier in recent years. Also, if Murray is truly "better" than Mrazek he probably should have had much more success behind TOR's far superior roster. Also, Mrazek makes $1.6M less next season and has a lower cap hit by almost $1M. But, with 50% retention Mrazek makes almost $4M less and has less than half the cap hit.

Also, TOR NEEDS cap space and CHI does not, and "need" is an important distinction in determining who is a "cap dump". Teams generally don't dump players if they don't have to, and the price teams are willing to pay is largely determined by their desperation for cap space.

Toronto doesn’t need the cap space when Murray is 90% likely heading to LTIR for the season - making him not a cap dump. So your argument point becomes invalid because any team acquiring Murray is simply acquiring LTIR space and that won’t cost Toronto much to move. Mrazek would be a pure dump because of his poor play.

Murray going on LTIR would account for about half of the almost $9m by which TOR has exceeded the cap. So, it's a start, I guess...

They’re currently over the cap by $8,831,450.

Murray ($4,687,500) + Muzzin ($5,625,000) = $10,312,500 of cap relief from LTIR

Meaning there’s still $1,481,050 of space before the Samsonov signing. They have to clear a bit of cap, yes. But they won’t be paying a high price to dump Murray when they don’t have to.
