ANA should just pay these guys

Long term deal for Zegras

And a bridge for Drysdale

As at this point they risk these 2 getting mad enough to demand a trade and sitting out

Like I said yesterday, No teams claim smith, but we'll see another team claim a random AHL player. San Jose played into it perfectly.

I wouldn't exactly call Emberson a nobody, he had a decent AHL season last year and I think he has some potential in the tank, he's definitely not as well known as Smith but clearly SJS liked him more

I think it comes down to the scarcity of the position Smith plays compared to Martin and how clubs value that kind of depth.

Every NHL club has a 7th defender. Smith falls into that poor #6 to good #7 range. How large of a gap is there between him and every other team's #7? What about their #6? One could have made a case that Arizona and Chicago probably should have put a claim in on Smith, but by all accounts, the Blackhawks are damned to test all internal solutions before looking outwards this year.

Most NHL teams have a #3 goaltender that they can hold some faith in should an injury occur and they need someone to man the fort for half a dozen games, but not every club. Likewise, goaltending is a very cerebral position (they're weird for a reason) and we've seen first hand with Vancouver and DiPietro what happens when a prospect gets rushed into a role they're wholly unprepared for. His career wasn't ruined per se, but he's taking the long way to breaking into the NHL full-time due to repeated rounds of shelling at the NHL level.

Having that #3 to insulate the up-and-coming prospects and build towards a long AHL playoff run is really good for prospect development.

Oh I get it, it's just that the narrative on here that "he absolutely gets claimed" because he has POTENTIAL is nowhere near the reality of where NHL teams are. They need "NHL Defensemen" today in order to claim someone on waivers; and they have to be relatively certain that the new guy is better than the guy they are demoting; otherwise there is too much risk involved.

Ty Smith and Ryan Merkley types have really good talent in certains areas, but overall are just not ready for the NHL so they will clear waivers unless an NHL team has a well timed injury.

Dysin Mayo is interesting as a right-shot defender with good size and 82 games on NHL and 301 games of AHL experience. Granted that his NHL experience would probably not have happened anywhere else but in Arizona. A team like Florida could snag him and use him until their guys get healthy on the right side. Or the Flyers if Attard/Grans are not ready.

Honestly considering both teams situations

Maybe a trade between Ottawa and Anaheim aint a bad idea

As for some reason ANA is hesitant to get a deal done with Drysdale and Ottawa doesnt have the space to give Pinto what he wants

Slaf has actually looked great this preseason. Our young defenders don't want to make the team I don't think.

I think Verbeek is just playing hardball to play hardball.

I'd hope he values Drysdale more than Pinto considering he had just as good of rookie season as a 22 year old Pinto when he was 19 years old.

Unfortunately his injury has just prevented himself from being able to prove he's that guy.

Lassi Thomson claimed by Anaheim

Good lord Dorion...

honestly don't understand it from Anaheim POV either, Verbeek needs to get Drysdale signed

I do like Thomson as a low risk bet tho

That Hamonic deal despite being 1.1m looks pretty bad rn

As the NMC made it to where he couldnt be waived and thanks to that they lost Thompson who at this point was about the same as Hamonic is now

Not a great look for Dorion

As for ANA this makes things interesting as if they get Drysdale signed they got 4 good RD

I presume Jones is going on waivers. But did play well in the preseason, so maybe a desperate claims him and see how he does. They can still waive him later.
But the do Leafs do want that "third" NHL goalie in the system. It's the reason Jones is making the same money whether he plays in the NHL or AHL. So maybe teams may not claim him for that reason.

I think we can just refer to him as "Sam the Swede", since his name gets perpetually censored.

The same way someone like Ty Smith did, they simply don't look worth it anymore, potential is maybe still there but if you're not going to give them ice time, why claim them

that and teams haven't cleared their own prospects from their rosters so its harder to pick up these dudes early.

Jacob Bernard-Docker on waivers. Canucks should look into it. Definitely more intriguing than lASSi Thomson

that Hamonic NMC clause seemed just something to laugh about, but now it turned out to be horrible for roster management

I personally prefer Lassi, although yea I think the Nucks should try to claim him.

the Sens just put Bernard-Docker and Sokolov on waivers no way at least one doesn't get claimed
