Normally I'd just be in this thread to dump on Josh Anderson but that is genuinely a terrible deal for the Habs

Why would a rebuilding team give up a high Draft pick + waste a retaining spot for four years just to get a minimal upgrade?

So in essence, you want grit but you don't want to pay for grit.

No money, no Josh Anderson. Happy April 2024.

Excerpt from The Athletics about Josh Anderson:

He’s a commodity in low supply, and the demand for the commodity remains high.

“Playoff hockey is still heavy hockey,” that scout said. “The standard drops, it just does. And he can help you play heavy hockey.”

We saw that from Anderson in the 2021 playoff run, most glaringly in the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs. At one point in that series, the Maple Leafs defencemen — Jake Muzzin in particular — started just getting rid of pucks that were dumped in their zone. They had enough of Anderson coming in with a head of steam and ruining their lives, one hit at a time.

I did, the dumping pucks in part was not from the scout, he also quoted another scout

“He’s a complementary part, so if you have a good team, that’s great; he can complement those good players,” the scout said. “But paying $5.5 million for that? That’s a hell of a complementary part … If he was on my team, it’s not as if I’d be disappointed. But I’d also be wondering how much of that money he’s taking up could be used better elsewhere.”

which you decided to leave out

that line is pretty much what every person on this site says, hes a 3rd liner making too much money, and habs fans lose their mind every single time.

I could found the footage of it but the article describes exactly the action on that footage. A game against the Sabres last year. Anderson was drilling Dahlin all game long. At some point tou clearly see Dahlin gave the puck up in the corner just to not be hit by the Anderson express. Also Anderson can score goal he is near the 20 mark each year. Might be overpaid but still a very very useful players.
Not sure why all the hate around here. Start to remain me the Lehkonen situation where people thought they would get him for a 3rd round pick.

I almost never see habs fans trading Anderson. When they do it’s in a troll post. On the other end, Leafs fans always make trades for Anderson that are extremely loopsided in Toronto’s favor

No one arguing that Anderson is overpaid. The point is Anderson is a very good hockey players and he is not by any mean a cap dump since every single GM would take Anderson on their team. Probably not at 5,5 but that doesn’t change what he brings on the ice.

Toronto doesn’t have anything that would make Hugues pull the trigger on a Anderson trade. I only see a trade if Mtl get a top prospect, just like they did with Lehky.

This is a correct take, Anderson is a 3rd liner who can put up 20 goals and play fast and heavy. Unfortunately he’s paid like a top 6 player, which knocks down his value.

but what everyone seems to forget is that if MTL retains salary (like here for example $2.2mil for 4 years) Anderson should no longer be considered overpaid, and suddenly should be worth his weight in gold for what he brings on a value contract (here again for example $3.3mil for 4 years).
