There are quite a few assumptions made in the trades, but hopefully I didn't mess it up too badly.
Leafs fans are inlove with Z, so I figured I'd give him to them.
The Sanheim trade was more difficult, but I was looking to take a flyer on a D that struggled last season, and I believe could rebound to replace Hanifin. Coleman is not under a great contract himself, but I wouldn't give up much more for Sanheim at the moment. Ruzicka is an interesting prospect that might not get a good look in CGY. He started the year with ~20 pts in 20 games, but then Sutter happened.
As for the Nashville trade, I know you guys will be reluctant to part with good prospects for Hanifin, but he could really shore up your D after the loss of Ekholm, I'm still upset you guys traded him to EDM. Let me know what you guys think is a fair trade. I'm mostly looking for prospects and futures.
Leaf fans aren’t in love with Z - some may be, and some think Tre would love to get him but a lot of us think he has size & snarl but he is 3rd pair at best and is overpaid. Just no way they sacrifice Lili for pending UFA

I thought that also helped the Leafs get out of the Jarnkrok contract, giving you more cap space to re-sign your UFA's next off-season. That said, I'll be all for trading you Z for futures, but you don't have the cap-space.

There is a lot of chatter that Leafs are desperate to move salary. I am no insider but I don’t see it; they start season with 20 man roster (one of the strongest in the league btw) and use waiver exempt marlies and LTIR if injuries occur. Jarnkrok popped 20 goals, played well higher up in lineup when needed and was really good defensively . At$2.1M per - they are in no hurry to dump that contract
Not Kemell. Hes an A prospect. Idk for sure but maybe a Schaefer and 3rd or so. But Nasvhille likely isnt buying rn but a B prospect and mid pick seems likely
NSH has no room or interest in Hanifin. They already have Josi, McDonagh, and Lauzon on the left side signed long-term. And they especially aren’t giving up one of their best, if not the best, RW prospect they have + another good looking, young player.
Hanifin isn’t going to get a top prospect from any team. B prospect + 2nd or something is what I see. Maybe just a 1st if some GM is desperate.

It could be just my opinion, but McDonagh is slowing down every year. If you think he can remain a top 4 D for the next 3 years, that's great. As for Lauzon, he's a #5D in my eyes, not a #2 like Hanifin.
I guess we'll see what Hanifin gets, but the point was to sell him for futures, younger players while bringing in Sanheim from PHI.
Hanafin doesnt make sense for Nashville unless he is near free. Two big LHD contracts already with Josi and McDonagh. Josi with a NMC McDonagh with a contract that basically makes him unmovable. Giving up large assets so we can have a 6 million dollar 3rd pairing dman just doesnt work out.

I won't disagree that McDouagh is slowing down, but he isn't a slouch by any means. In 3 years time he will need to be replaced, but it isn't a need now. The bigger issue for NSH is that there is already has a logjam at defense and acquiring Hanfin just makes that worse. McDonagh already has his replacement in system in one of Statsney, Del Gaizo, or even Moleyndk, the former two saw NHL time last year due to injuries and played well, and with more time at the NHL level would be serviceable at a minimum.
Asking NSH to trade arguably their top prospect and one of the few strong finishing forwards AND one of the future core centers, a position that NSH is already horribly weak at, for a defenseman they don't really need is just a bad deal for NSH.

Gee, Lily and Jarnkrok cost 3.5 total. What's the sense in having 3.75m....or even retained Zaradov. I don't understand all the love for the Flames Dmen. Yikes 24m for a middling defensive team.

I don’t disagree on McDonagh— I don’t think he has been the same defenseman in NSH that he was with TBL, but he has a big salary and a NMC. So NSH is stuck with him for better or worse— they don’t have the room or money to spend on Hanifin.
