You asked four essentially 4 1st round picks and for what a 30 year old goalie whonis a pending UFA and Connor, who is a very good player, and all for one proven player whonis what 20 or 21 a top 10 ten pick this year and two future 1st round picks. There is nothing Helly would sign here as the Wings are not a true cup contender and he could walk after this year.

I am not overall happy, but Steve is slowly trying to shape this team for a long run in the playoffs and possible cups runs. This trade would put Detroit back into the playoffs but since they are the fan base that never seems to want to stop rebuilding they seem to hate a trade that is a win for them.

Prospects are nice when you are starting a rebuild. We aren’t rebuilding and Detroit has been rebuilding for 7 years! At some point you’d think they’d want to contend but I guess picks and prospects matter more in year 7 of a rebuild than a top winger who’s scored 47 goals and a Vezina trophy winner.
