Two late 1st for an elite offensive player? No, not fair at all.

Toronto would be trading an 80 point player who is going to make 6.9M this year for nothing that is going to help them in the moment. Unless they were to flip those picks for a undercompensated high point producer... this does not make sense for TOR.

The argument to keep Nylander for the season is strong for me. And I've really pushed them to trade Nylander every year when he pulls up early on a hit it drives me nuts. But this year you are not going to get 40 goals and 80 pts back for 6.9M in any trade so it makes sense to play out the year and let him walk, or trade his rights for a pick at the end of the year.

Nylander with an extension in place would get two first round picks back in a trade. But not from the Hawks. If the Hawks go "big game hunting" next couple of years, it will be in free agency. Where all they spend is money. They won't be trading away high picks for players until they flush out their '22 and '23 draft classes to see what they actually need.

Hawks will just wait for free agency if they wanna overpay Nylander.

I sure hope the Hawks don't do that trade. IF Nylander gets the contract you're suggesting...$10M per...then he'll be available as a UFA and the Hawks should send zero assets to TOR. He's due somewhere around $9M. I would not give him more than $9.1M...if there's a $100k delta...fine whatever.

STOP THIS. Nylander does not fit in the Hawks rebuild. Adding an overpaid Nylander now along with Jones just makes the cap situation worse when the kids start getting new deals. Not trading 1st round picks for Nylander....ever.

No way the Hawks include their 2024 1st unprotected, that should be a top five selection and if Gary sets up the lottery balls for us again 😜 number one overall!

I personally have seen enough of Nylanders in Chicago, the talent is undeniable but the give a s**t meter is too often set on low for my liking.

Both sides don't like it so it must be a good trade

OR it's a lose / lose trade. Because the Hawks are rebuilding and don't want a Seth Jones 2.0 trade combined with TOR going for it...not wanting to trade away a "now" piece. Yup...I'd say both teams lose.

Yeah....hard no. Hawks are ways away from being a Nylander away from anything. The draft picks proposed here are the piece that build the foundation where you go get a Nylander down the road in a couple of seasons once you know what your actual roster holes are based on how your prospect pool develops. Patience grasshopper.

are you interested in if it’s fair value, or if it works for either team? Hawks don’t do it because they are rebuilding & don’t give up firsts. TML doesn’t do it because they are in win now mode.
The value is very debatable. He has been an extremely good player in the regular season & one of the better TMLs in the playoffs ( honestly bar is pretty low). However, the Leafs are going to have to face off against the salary cap. They will not win against that opponent.
