Here we go again. Josh Anderson has negative value at 5.5M with term. He’s a over glorified third liner. Yes he’s big, yes he hits. But he’s still a third liner. So why are we giving up Robertson and a first for garbage they can’t get rid of ??

As a preds fan, Toronto is getting absolutely ripped off in that Nylander trade. Tree would be shot into the sun for offering that.

Habs want to keep Anderson FYI wink ! Andy is not a garbage. He is a true team player who got a sh|tload of injuries ... as our team did ... ! As for the offer here, we might take it.

Because the guy who posted this loves making the team worse so he can call leaf fans idiots. But he's not a troll.

He's a 3rd liner. He's not worth his contract and he's all yours. No one beyond Hab fans think he's worth anything. The "leaf fan" who posted this is not a leaf fan. Just a troll

He's not just a big guy who throws hits. One would hope we can see the value in a toolset like he has, having watched the effect guys like Hyman and Knies have by retrieving pucks on the forecheck, creating space for their linemates and driving to the net. He has scored at a 25 goal pace over the last 3 years on a much worse Canadiens team and would be a good bet to score 30 on a line with Marner and Tavares. People like yourself never seem to learn from the playoff success of guys like Wilson, Anderson and Barbashev, all of whom played top line minutes in the Stanley cup final within the last 5 years. Go look at Barbashev's stats before Vegas acquired him, then look at the contribution he made in the playoffs and the contract he earned himself. Look at what Tampa just paid for a much lesser player in Jeannot to try and get that type of player. Obviously an overpayment, but Anderson is much more proven and we'd be getting him for much less.

Go look at Hyman's stats before we let him walk, or Wilson's career stats, or Marchment's before playing top 6 minutes on a contending team. Fair-weather fans who only follow the puck when they watch hockey fail to see everything that goes into a successful play and the importance of role players like this. He's more valuable than the small perimeter players we've built around, Nick Robertson among them.

Would it be reasonable to swap Afanasayev for Tomasino or Evangelista? That's what I was going with originally but it was quashed by another Preds fan on here.

We have different team building philosophies, mine just so happens to align more with teams who have actually had success. Do you not remember two years ago when Anderson was playing top line minutes for the Habs team that knocked us out of the playoffs and went on to the Cup final?

Clearly not.

Nashville could probably add, fair enough. Podkolzyin is a 22 year old former 10th overall pick who plays a particular style of game, you can see there's a common trend among the playstyle of these players.

See Stanley Cup champion Ivan Barbashev as the most recent example of just how wrong you are.

That Vancouver trade is laughable. Jarnkrok is a solid middle-6 player and Liljegren has so much upside. They are both better than the players they are getting back. Leafs lose that, like by a lot.

Not a fan of getting nylander myself but preds take this and worst comes to worst flips him 50% at the deadline for a 2024 1st +

Jarnkrok is another undersized mediocre winger who disappears when it matters, just like Liljegren is a mediocre defenseman who isn't particularly great at anything. Have you looked at their stats in the playoffs? Jarnkrok has 5 goals and 17 points in 86 playoff games (LOL) and Liljegren has 0 playoff points over 2 years, failing to make the playoff roster for game one of this past post-season, He is entering his 25 year old season this year; for reference, Rielly placed 4th in Norris voting at that age.

And you really want to use upside to support your argument when Podkolzin just turned 22 in June and is a former 10th overall pick? Time to take off the homer goggles.

Asa Preds fan, I don't have interest in re-signing Nylander. Putting a better prospect than Afanasyev in the deal makes it a lot closer in value, but then it's at a point where NSH wouldn't get a return much better than that, flipping Nylander at the deadline.

On the ANA trade, take out the 4th, we’ll give up a 3rd but not a 2nd. Is Brodie worth a 2? Yes. But is he worth a 2 as an expiring UFA to bottom 5-10 ANA? No. Also, he’s not waiving for us anyways

Risto has always had a great toolset but has been stuck on ****ty teams. He ranked 12th in the entire league in xG suppression impact and was in the 76th percentile in overall xG differential impact despite being used in a shutdown role on an awful team. He's also had some pretty productive offensive seasons playing in a mostly defensive role. It's impossible for any D man who plays shutdown minutes on a bad team to put together good analytics, as was the case with Hampus Lindholm, Doughty before LA's resurgence, Seth Jones now, etc. That's why people who only look at the stats without contextualizing them are usually way off in the player evaluations.

Then they see a guy like Lindholm place 4th in Norris voting on a team with actual talent, or a guy like Barbashev win the cup playing first line minutes, and they all of a sudden forget about it all. Like i said earlier, do you not remember Andersen playing top line minutes for the team who beat the Leafs and went to the final only 3 years ago? Remember all the awful defensemen who helped them get there? Probably not.

I see you're still learning, so let's break it down:

The first line is better suited for the playoffs, the second line is way better, the third line is way better, the 4th line is better, our top pair is better, our 2nd pair is better. Maybe our 3rd pair is a bit of a gamble? Probably still better though.

Sweet.

Also, I know we’ve had some disagreement in the past. Just wanted to say I’ve seen you pop up a few times the last week or so with great POVs and a super constructive approach to disagreeing with people (some of whom have had really ridiculous takes). Just wanted to say thanks and kudos, Capfriendly is a better place for it
