That’s a tempting deal for Buffalo, that would be hard to pass up, but i doubt it happens
Besides Ottawa being unlikely to trade Chabot imo,
i don’t think the Sabres wanna bring in a big $$$ contract on defense long term- especially not a LD (we have Dahlin & Power already)

He’s good though, & if this was the price for him, i think it would be hard to say “no”

how does it cripple the blueline to trade a guy who can't defend and bring in a defenseman who won the Stanley cup?

That Chabot contract is Horrible, actual Salary is 2 mill more than his Cap hit for the next 3 or 4 years. Doubt the Sabres would do this.

The Blues have no cap for that. And while that Chabot return is bad, the Sabres are about the last team who need him.

Save the season? Did the Wings break you guys? 1 loss to a currently good team and you're spiraling?

I am not against moving Chabot or Brannstrom for the right price but Jack Johnson is no longer a top 4 d man , Hunt is an AHL player and Ryan Johnson is a wildcard who would be better off going to team where he can get some ice time. Ottawa will eventually have to make a decision on keeping Chabot or re-signing Chychrun. But no rush on that decision.

That defenseman is Jack Johnson.

If you’d like to bring in a better defender, I’m available for league min.

David Runblad won the cup too, maybe the Sens should offer him a contract.

This is actually worse than what Dorion could ever do

Not sure why anyone would want to separate Norris and Batherson as they really need each others...

That defense would truly be awful

Jack Johnson, acquired by COL, is a Stanley Cup Champion. #GoAvsGo

If someone gives you the 17th higest PPG D-man since 2018-19, you take him and figure it out later. Dorion has been abused by so many teams already, don't miss out

Brannstrom is infinitely better at defending than JJ...

I'm thinking you are attempting humor this morning?

Ottawa will eventually have to make a decision on keeping Chabot or re-signing Chychrun.

They could afford to have the big 3 long-term, 2 are already signed at 8 M$, Chychrun will just need a 3 M$ raise

Having cheap efficient guys like Brannstrom behind them is going to be key. But I think he'll be traded to make room for Kleven eventually

Until one of them can prove they are solid on the right side I would be inclined to go with a defensive top 4 RD.

You mean among the big 3? I would have gone :

Chabot - Sanderson
Chychrun - Zub
Brannstrom - Hamonic

They should know by end of season if this work. Some guys like playing opposite side some guys just can’t get used to handling pucks getting rimmed around the boards. We’ll see.

Jake Sanderson is elite at everything so I see him as the most capable to handle this... or we could also acquire another good RHD (for Brannstrom+?) and run 3 pairs equally at ES, we'd always have one on the ice :

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - ??????
Chychrun - Hamonic

The only issue with that is can Chychrun get 20+ mins a game on 3rd pair? I could see a player like DeMelo in that slot with Chabot , someone who keeps it simple and lets his partner engage offensively. I don’t think a move is required at this point and to be honest I don’t trust Dorion to meddle with the D corps , leave it as is for now. If they do move Brannstrom they need to bring someone on the cheap who can also play a physical role, Seeler fits that bill. But I doubt that will happen.

There is always special teams and various game situations (beginning and end of periods, end of game, 4v4, 3v3, etc), that's where the big 3 would get more ice-time

Please don't talk about DeMelo, another stupid decision from Dorion to trade him for a 3rd round pick when we always needed him

Brannstrom for Seeler would be a bad move, I know it`s been suggested but Brannstrom is younger, better defensively and offensively and is not UFA after the season

We disagree on Brannstrom , if and when they get to the playoffs he will get pushed around and worn down. If Brannstrom asks for 3x3 next year would you do it?
I like Seelers toughness , as the season goes teams are going target guys like Stutzle, Sanderson….As much as Tkachuk likes to drop the mitts he should not be that guy, Kastelic can do part of the role but he cannot do it alone. We agree on most , its good to hear other peoples perspectives.

Oh but that's because I am not worrying about playoffs now, I mean we have to make them first. Brannstrom only has 1 year term and is still RFA. Seeler is 30 y/o already and UFA

I understand and agree that Brannstrom should/will have to be moved eventually to make room for Kleven but he should be moved smartly for a piece that could possibly help long term (prospect or even a pick). You can find players like Seeler on the UFA market or through trades (could be at the deadline).

I think the best time to trade Brannstrom would be either at the deadline or at the draft. The thing is we have to start doing smart asset management, Dorion's AM has hurt us for wayyyyyy too long
