Good moves for Vancouver this week, getting Zadorov and $400,000 cap space for Beauvillier and a 3rd. You have to look at the two trades together because one doesn’t happen without the other.

I’m surprised Calgary didn’t get more for him. I’m not a delusional Flames fan – I know he’s not a star – but with all the teams that seem to need defensive help and could use a big body, I thought he’d be one of the more sought after rentals. Most of those teams couldn’t afford to take him without retention though, so I think Calgary limited the market by wanting to move his whole salary. I guess they felt they needed to clear the cap space for something – maybe there’s more to this than simply selling a pending UFA for whatever you can get. Otherwise, I agree with the people who said they probably would have been better off waiting, especially being not too far out of a wild-card spot now. A sell-off seems premature.

That's why I was confused on why Vancouver would do that...

So the Canucks paid Beauvillier and a 2026 3rd for Zadorov and 400,000 in cap space.

I would trade him for a top 4 dman and add too he wont become a top 4 guy on a conteneder.

Yeah on contender he's a top 6. At one time he had high expectations, but hasn't really lived up to that.

Where was Toronto? They could have paid more than that

Zadorov might have wanted Toronto and Conroy said "Go F*** yourself enjoy Vancouver"

Zadorov with his first goal as a Canucks in his first game, which was against his old team, and it ended up as the game winner. Love to see it

Edit: it has since been changed to a Pettersson goal, but still an assist for Zadorov against his former team in his Canucks debut

Leaf fans about to blow a gasket…

We may have found out last week why Toronto didn't make the trade. They wanted him and Tanev, but needed Calgary to retain salary and Calgary was unwilling to do that. Their Big 4 are being paid way too much to upgrade anywhere else. And next year it will be even worse.

Love this move for us. Think flames fans are shaking their head at Conrad with this move and the Toffoli deal. I think the value is fair though.

Flames won that Toffoli deal. Sharangovich has outperformed Toffoli, is younger and they got a pick!

This might still happen. I think the Canucks are going to flip Zadorov to Toronto for assets and then use some of that to acquire Xhekaj from Montreal.

Teams seem to be placing more value on avoiding retaining salary this year. Used to be pretty much taken for granted that teams selling pending UFAs would retain some salary, or you could get a third team to retain for a 4th or 5th round pick. I don’t think it’s the money that’s making them reluctant to do it. It’s the limited number of retention slots (3 per team). This is especially true for Calgary with the number of pending UFAs they have. Retaining on Zadorov would have reduced their flexibility to make other trades later. I think it factored into the Lindholm trade too. The Flames aren’t done dealing.

Been calling it for weeks…

Hanifin = 1st + 3rd
Tanev = 2nd + 3rd
Zadorov = 3rd
