Beecher seems like more of a defensive Center. We need offense so unfortunately the Habs decline.

Monahan is the type of player you offer a 3rd round pick at the deadline for. Hes not going to be on Boston’s powerplay and that represents a majority of his value. If Montreal thinks they are getting a lot for him, they should just keep him.

He's a rental though... there's a reason he is a $2M C. Don't think any team is paying a 1st for him.

Dude wtf does Boston have then?

Zacha: 8 goals for 18 points. 19 min/G FOW 51% (with Pastrnak and Debrusk)
Monahan: 6 goals for 13 points. 18 min/G FOW 58% (with Gallagher and Pearson)

Monahan would be 1C in Boston. Sue me.

Nothing short from a conditionnal 1st.

I never said Zacha was a true 1C, but there is no way in hell the Bruins should be trading a first for a marginal upgrade on him (if you believe he is better than Zacha). If they're trading for a center and parting with a first, they should put together a better package and get an actual 1C, which is why I've been annoyed at every Habs trade with Boston for Monahan. He doesn't solve any problem they have at center

Horrific metrics 5v5

Exists on a bad power play getting a boatload of time standing in front of the net

Exists on a bad PK

Monahan has inflated stats from 4 minutes a night standing in front of the net on the pp (and it’s not even like he’s making it a good power play)

You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly how I see it playing out. If Boston were to trade for a center, I would hope they slot in between Pastrnak and Zacha. This would allow Poitras to continue developing and allow the Coyle line with JVR and Frederic to stay intact.

Lindholm would be the only available guy who make sense mid season but he’s a steep price and I personally wouldn’t give him the contract he’s gonna want this offseason

that tends to happen when you are missing 25 mil of players to injury, WHILE on a rebuild

ytou expected monahan to have ppg, maybe with power play points on top?

you are high, he is a responsible center, who wins faceoff.
thaat will always cost more than you think, like renting defenesemen

late or future first.
even more with retention.

I think this would be an extremely favorable market for someone like Monahan. Even conceding his injury history, he is not a player that puts any contending team over the edge. So far this year, he has 3 primary points at 5v5 in 23 games played. He has limited penalty kill usage and has extremely elevated power play numbers that are both not sustainable or enough to be a top-four forward on a contending team to take their position. He has face-off upside but contending team is going to move that much of a premium for someone like him.

Retained salary on rentals doesn't really have a lot of marginal benefit to make a player worth more in the market. It's pretty much a prerequisite since a majority of contending teams are up to the cap ceiling.

I expected him to not be bottom 10 in the NHL in xgoals share 5v5 with only a bunch of sharks below him
