walker was underrated in LA and i really like that he's doing well on PHI, but I think a 1st is a bit of an unrealistic return. It's these type of media posts that cause fanbases to overrate their players... after seeing the zadorov return i think a 2nd (and maybe a small add) is more reasonable for Walker. Could for sure see the leafs overpaying for Risto's name value tho

Leafs are looking into Ristolainen because they probably think he could be had for relatively cheap. They aren't giving up a Cowan and a 1st for him.

Treliving said “Would we like to improve the defence? Absolutely. It all comes at a cost...There just aren’t a lot of high-end defencemen that people are dying to give you for low cost.”

I don't see how he would think Ristolainen is worth even a 1st at 50%, although he may pay out of requirement, but I don't think it would be wise.

It's not a serious offer.

I have no idea why any team would be interested in Risto.

It's either just posturing (letting CGY know there are other options)/due diligence or he wants him for his height, handedness, and potential cheap cost of acquisition. I would hope it's the former.

The Kings moved out Durzi, Faber, Walker (which are 1, 2, 3 on their respective teams in ice time) and Grans. Have Doughty, Roy, Spence with Clarke still in AHL (and this kid Sparkes who people seem to like). And Mania.

Thats some log jam.

Are you exaggerating when you say the Leafs wouldn't trade Raves for Risto at 50% retained?

Friedman already debunked it saying it was just inquiries but Phil dont seem interested in moving which makes sense they in a playoff hunt and he and Staal have good numbers so far

Also Jfresh chart aint the best for him as it looks at 3 years

This is better rn along with Andy and Rono's

If PHI was willing to ret and if he played like he did last year in our system I would be curious

Walker is probably good enough as a player to get a 1st. But he’s a rental to any team that gets him.

Young 1st round defenders that could be with their team for the next 8+ years with cap control are being traded for 1sts. Look at: Sandin. Hronek. Lundqvist. So it’s tough to see a 1st for Walker.

Walker might get a late 1st, but I think his true value at his current level of play is a 2nd and 4th kind of thing. The 2nd would be late in the round and the 4th might be in 2025 or 2026.

As for Risto, hes goines from a puck rushing/careless number 1 in BUF to a stay at home, physical, hitting, crease clearer in PHI and has been good, not 5mil good though.

Ultimately its about need.

PHI has no need to move him unless theyre overpaid. No expectatations, no cap crunch, so why take poor value? Also bear in mind that PHI has Hayes retention for 3 years, so eating 3 years of Risto is the loss of 2 out of 3 retention spots.

So Walker for a late 1st....meh, I doubt it, but maybe.

Risto (a top 4 defensive dman at 2.5mil for 3 yrs) at 50% for a 1st, sure maybe. But again its about need, PHI doesn;t have to move him unless they receive a overpayment.

Yeah this is not going to work for the leafs.
To start, Ristolainen is not good and carries a huge cap hit for what he brings on the ice. Additionally he plays the opposite style that we want in a defenseman. Even if Ristolainen is retained he is not worth Cowan, the first, or reaves, much less all 3. We also dont have to pay to dump reaves because we can waive/send him down and only retain 200k in the buried penalty. Cowan is a top prospect of the leafs and if you want him youre going to have to pay us in assets/players we can actually use to make our team better, not somebody that makes us worse and inhibits us from furthering the team.

What play style are you looking for in a defensemen? Since last year, the only regular defensemen with a lower xGA/60 on TOR is Brodie compared to Risto. Risto would also be the best in HDCA/60 on TOR since last year.
