It's not one for one. Nemec was the 2nd overall pick and as a young RHD he has tons of potential.

Matthews is probably worth Nemec and Hischier combined but, 13mil for 1guy vs 8.5mil for 2 guys and money leftover easy decision to not take it. If Matthews was at 10mil I would make that trade. Also build chemistry with Hughes is a bit of a stretch as both play center they would only build pp chemistry so no major benefit for team USA

Similar thinking for the Marner trade but slightly more likely because of retention and Marner might resign for less because of little to no taxes in the state of Florida. Also Tkachuk and Barkov don't play together and I don't think they've even played a single whole game together. Florida has always liked splitting up it's stars, Huberdeau and Barkov played together as young guys but split around the 3rd or 4th season.

I know Nemec is elite but like dude Matthews is Generational, could be the best goal scorer of our era

But I think Jersey can fit his cap hit and still ice a very competitive roster better than the Leafs can because they have Hughes locked up on a great contract. Jersey obviously gets the best player in the trade, but the Leafs get younger, more cap relief, and a better chance of building a balanced roster.

Tampa has like $12.5m in cap space for next season with 15 players under contract. If Nylander takes $9.5m of that, they have roughly $3m in cap space left and they need at least 4 players just to ice a complete team every night. By my math, that doesn't work out.

I just want the Leafs to win a Cup. And I know they have no chance with their current roster.

You're right. I just looked at their cap and roster for next year. They're in a tough situation unless Stamkos re-signs for league min.

Option A: 80 pt center, Selke level defense, team captain, $7m x 3 years
Option B: 85 pt center, good defense, $13m x 4 years

Not sure Devils would do it straight-up considering the role Nico plays for us.

Also, Nemec looks like a STUD.
