Wow, this is pretty amazing... An even more pathetic Leafs offer for Tanev than usual!

Detroit isn't wasting it's only retention slot on Reimer just because Leafs.

The Flames could get a better deal than that, especially if they're retaining.

They are asking for a 2nd for this guy. Since it’s a late 2nd and I added retention, I added Benoit(who has been solid for us) and a 5th rd pick

Didn’t realize they only had one left. May have to get a 3rd team involved for retention and we throw them a pick

Benoit has zero value lol. And no they are not asking for a 2nd, that is completely baseless.

Why would New Jersey want Sansonov? They want to improve their goaltending not add a 3rd equally as bad goalie

Don’t see many teams wanting to give a 1st for a 34 year old rental coming off injury. But hey if they get it, good for them

You don't think Samsonov is NHL capable, so why would Jersey?
An overpay for Murphy.
Wings are still in a playoff run, so I don't think Reimer is available at least now.
Might be the max I would give for Tanev.

I mean he's not getting traded any time soon so "coming off injury" is quite an exaggeration, considering he's just day to day and every player in the league would have gotten hurt in his position. Also stating his age and that he's a rental are contradictory arguments. As a rental you are getting exactly what the player he is right now, his age is irrelevant since he won't drop off suddenly in the peak of the season.

Maybe NJ doesn’t have interest but I Samsonov needs out of this market. Trade or send down to the minors.

I don’t think it’s an overpay for Murphy because he still has 3 years left on his desk at a good AAV

You could be right but I personally would have a hard time adding a 1st for a middle pairing D with no term. We got McCabe for a 1st last year but he came with term and retention

But why trade Liljegren and Jarnkrok for him, who are cheaper combined than Murphy. Liljegren had two pretty good seasons before this one......it's really not more than lateral move, though I know so many Leaf fans think ALL Dmen in the NHL are better than their own Dmen.[

Needed to send some salary back or wouldn’t be able to afford him and they ain’t giving retention with 3 years left in his deal. I’m sorry but Indont see the upside to Lily. Much smaller, less physical than Murphy. Plus Murphy skates and moves the puck well and comes with veteran leadership for a playoff run. Lily cant clear out the front of the net and has trouble winning puck battles in the corner, he isn’t putting up points. Just don’t see his upside other than being 24 and RH

Oh no...the old veteran leadership reason. His nine playoff games doesn't necessarily makes him playoff savvy. Admitting Murphy is playing on poor team, but when he's on the ice, his record of being "positive" player is iffy.

First of all. Tanev is significantly better than McCabe. He's slightly better than Brodie. He's also more than capable of playing 20 minutes a night.

As for the return it completely depends on the market. Tanev should get a pair of 2nd in a buyers market but he could certainly get a 1st in a sellers market.

If you had two options

1. Give up a 2nd and pay $2.5m to add Maxime Lajoie to your blueline

2. Give up a 2nd (and 5th) to pay $2.25m to add Chris Tanev to your blueline

Which would you do? Now why would NJD do the former?

I was actually just thinking of something similar recently. But I had TOR's 2026 1st instead of the 2024 1st, no 2nd going to TOR, 50% retention on Murphy, Donato going to TOR, and CHI taking back Reaves and Samsonov instead of Jarnkrok. So, TOR would be getting even more value than the 2024 2nd. Interesting... Maybe I was going overboard on giving TOR sweeteners, but CHI has a lot longer way to go than some CHI fans seem to think. So, adding more 1st round picks is pretty valuable to our rebuild, IMO. I never hit publish, though. I'd rather critique other peoples ACGM's than deal with critiques on my own. haha

Also, you're probably gonna have to pay more for Tanev. Given that he is a pending UFA rental and I personally think he is a bit overrated, I don't think he is gonna get as much as CGY fans want, but I definitely think he will get more than that. Especially with the retention.

A lot more experience than Lily brings for a team ready to win now. Murphy is paying with mostly rookies around him. He has only played on Chi and Arz(unfortunately for him) and I think he would be a good asset on our top pair with Rielly. Lily is a lifetime bottom pair guy.

Very curious to see what he goes for. Cgy fans got real quiet in here when Zadorov went for a 3rd and 5th and to a division rival.

I think Chicago would jump on the chance to unload Murphy ASAP. Getting Liljegren back to fill his spot plus a 1st rounder would be a deal they couldn't pass up. Murphy just seems lost out there. I don't know if it's trying to help bring along younger defensemen this season, but his play has been atrocious. Maybe a change of scenery to a contending team would spark him.

NJD Says No. Easily.
Remove Benoit from that Tanev deal. We need our depth. I assume we would need to give a 2023 2nd and not a 2025 2nd for Tanev.
I severely dislike that Murphy trade. I personally would not take Murphy at his full cap for free. Which I know is a take and a half.
I would do that Detroit deal if we end up trading Sammy somehow.

Funny, because Chicago declines. Lillypad doesn't have much value to Chicago, they have better prospects in the system and giving up Murphy to go from a 2nd round pick to a 1st round pick is not worth it. Jarnkrok doesn't help the Hawks. Keep Lillypad (send him elsewhere) and Jarnkrok and just pony up a 2nd for Murphy and it probably gets it done.

Because Chris Tanev won't be that cheap to acquire. It'll take a 1st +
