Kahkonen I feel is better plus you guys don’t want Blackwood back he wasn’t working for you guys!
Zetterlund was well liked so he is a bigger plus than Xhekaj (even though I like his name lol)
Harris is a big add so we would have to counter with a Thrun or Okhotiyuk add!
Still I think it’s easy to beat Montreal here even if we have to add a pick!

Value wise they're quite similar (which is why you consistently see them getting similar contracts on here despite the 3 extra years of RFA control for mercer).

I’m a Habs fan and I think this offer for Mercer is insulting…
But I know this isn’t an original idea, it’s from an article on A Winning Habit published today, also in the article it mentions MTL retaining on Allen and adding a top pick. Still probably not enough to be honest. If a team is trading top quality normally they want quality back in return over quantity.

I see Mercer as a RW but I’ve also not watched him as much being a west coast guy.

He generally plays either 3C or moves into the top 6 and plays the wing (because Jack and Nico exist). Drafted as a C, winning draws now, can certainly play C. But can fit anywhere up and down a lineup if you need him to

I like Mercer. I wouldn’t trade Swayman 1 for 1 for him. Value is reasonable, but I bet on Swayman’s capability to become a premium player over Mercer’s.

Id give Ullmark and Lysell for Mercer and Vanecek, but I doubt that NJ would do that.

Yes. If I’m giving up a truly premium asset like Mercer, I’d want a truly premium goalie back. Due to that Mercer almost certainly doesn’t get traded.

Mercer Swayman swap makes the most sense, as Boston needs a top 6 C long term and NJD needs a long term goalie, and NJD already has the top 6 Cs and Boston has another goalie. A Gustafsson swap is 2nd as they have a long term goalie in Wallstedt, and are in need of a top 6C as well.

But it still likely doesn’t happen as both sides would probably rather keep their guy

It’s kind of interesting, because statistically this year … Mercer isn’t a premium asset. 56 points at 21 years old and a +22 says he is. He's regressed to a level better than his 20 year old season, but closer it it than what you’d expect. I value him as a very good asset, but wouldn’t trade Swayman for him. I’m not sure he’s a center not that it really matters.

Gustavsson should be the target for goalie poor teams

He's a complementary piece. In his prime he will score 25-40--65 in a top 6 winger role and a lot of those goals will be garbage goals. He needs a playdriver on his line (Bratt, Hischier, Tatar)

Mercer can certainly be a C. Just not really an opportunity with Nico & Jack.

Even with the diminished play this year the value remains sky high. Just look at what Dach went for with AWFUL play. A guy who has a lot of cheap team control, center potential, and any kind of production is going to have sky high value in today’s NHL.

The alternative is spending 5+ mill on a guy like JT compher to fill your Center needs.

Elias Lindholm is the only decent C hitting UFA this year.

After that it’s a big fish in Drai, older Tavares who’s gonna get overpaid, and what? Ancient Crosby if he leaves? Old Nelson? Old gourde? Bennett? There’s NOBODY really out there for teams looking for a top 6 C
