Description
If the Oilers want to be true contenders, they need to replace Cody Ceci. Ceci has been a serviceable defenseman since signing with the Oilers (+29 in 203 games played) and is a great locker room guy. Issue with him is that he's not good enough to play in the top pairing with Nurse, which isn't his fault, as he is essentially forced into this position.
Oilers have been playing great, but if they want to be true contenders, they need to replace Ceci with a RH dman that is more capable of playing against other team's top lines.

What would be the asking price for these 3 RH dman options? Please keep in mind that any trade would need to involve Ceci going the other way.

If you wanted to aim slightly lower Edmonton could call Montreal and ask about David Savard (I am aware that Kent Hughes said they are not actively shopping Savard, but for the right price I am sure he could be acquired).

Tanev is the most likely and the cheapest out of the three but he's most likely either going to Toronto or Dallas IMO, since idk how much Calgary wants to help out Edmonton on their potential cup run.

If they were to trade with you guys it would probably be Ceci,1st, and a lil sweetener cause it's Edmonton for Tanev 50% retained.

If Ceci can't play in the top pair, Savard most defiantly cannot either.

Tanev is the only one of those guys that's realistically available. Edmonton likely doesn't have the peices available to get any of the others.

I misread. I thought it was top 4 RHD (I think he would be good on a 2nd pair for the playoffs, because his game is better suited for a playoff run than it is for the full 82 game schedule).

I agree that he is not a top pair defender on a Cup contending team

Savard would be great on our third pair, but Desharnais has been excelling in that role, at a fraction of the price.

IMO, none of the defencemen you listed are significant upgrades on Ceci. If Oilers are to investing assets, I would want a bonafide 1st pairing defenceman.

The Oilers defence group and as a team are playing great at the moment. If any of the players listed are marginally better, it still risks upsetting the chemistry.

I also don't think any of the defencemen listed are 1st pairing guys on a good team. Do you?

Agreed, but Ceci has been our worst defenseman. I'm not taking anything away from the group as a whole, but if we actually want to contend, we need a Ceci upgrade. All of these guys are Ceci upgrades, that's all that matters. We're not going to get a true #1 in season.

Zub would be a tough grab from the Sens. Don't really have much on the right side with Hamonick/Bernard-Docker and Chycrun playing on his off-side.
I don't see the interest on the Sens side, but it'd likely have to be a Ceci re-unite, a first, and another pick/mid-tier prospect.
Others would probably just flat out reject though.

I feel like if the Oilers use whatever assets to perform a maybe marginal upgrade on Ceci and instead use it to add to the forward group, the Oilers would be a better team as a whole as compared with upgrading Ceci.

Tanev is the only one available and he plays for the enemy so should probably look elsewhere.

Edmonton is not gonna find much of an upgrade on Ceci so grab a depth piece for injury insurance cause that's all you can do, maybe a guy like Stecher.

Maata would be a good add for the Oilers but he's a lefty and has a $3M cap hit which might be difficult for the Oilers to fit.

I echo @csick's post above. Zub is unavailable simply because he is our best RHD at the moment and has the best chemistry with all of our current LHD... You'd really need to make it worth while for Ottawa to consider moving him.

He's the Senators version of Cernak in TBL.

yeah I mean others have said the same, but the Sens simply can't afford to lose Zub. only way to make it work would be to overpay so massively for him that the Sens are able to go off and flip the assets for at least a comparable dman and then have some left over, at which point the Oilers might as well just go and get whoever else would be available
