Wow, there's a lot to unpack here.

Raanta returns more than that, the 5 bad games he had aside, he's been extremely strong recently.

Ned didn't work here once, pass on bringing him back.

Staal's got more value than Dowd, why are we moving down in the draft? Bad trade.

That Pittsburgh deal is awful. Orlov might be a little overpaid, but he should comfortably return a 1st if Carolina opt to move him. Pettersson is a major downgrade, Carter Is a cap dump, and the pick doesn't do enough to move Orlov. Retaining on Carter after that to move him is extremely stupid.

That's not enough for Askarov.

Both Detroit and Nashville pass, 2 undrafted and 2 2nd round picks aren't getting Askarov out of Nashville. And Detroit has zero interest in wasting a 5th round pick on Jeff Carter.

The Caps don't touch that with a 50 foot pole. The Staal contract is cheeks

Ponomarev is interesting. Just dont think he is a good enough prospect to warrent Askarov let alot the picks from Nashville. The rest coming to Nashville isnt adding anything of value.

Staal >>> Dowd, Staal is going to be in the Selke conversation again, Dowd is a 4th liner.

Then why trade for Dowd lol If Staal is going to be a selke candidate then why trade him for a "4th liner"?

Besides that Dowd is an elite defensive center (like Staal) on a cheap deal. He's getting a 1st from someone, probably EDM.

I wouldn't. I didn't create this. Dowd is a fine defensive C. Staal is 2nd in the league in xGA, he was 4th in Sele voting last year, and is still one of the most dominant forces in the NHL. Staal straight up has more value than Dowd

You're way undervaluing MP28. I wouldn't do that 1 for 1.

Orlov's better than Pettersson, in every category. Petterson is a fine top 4 D man. He's good. Orlov walks onto almost any teams top pairing.

Then sounds like Caps and Canes won't be good trade partners. I'd bet Dowd ends up going to EDM.

The only player I think Caps and Canes would trade for is Lindgren.

Having NSH add picks because their best prospect is somehow not enough for that pile of scraps is my favourite part.

Canes won't be looking for a goalie with Freddie on his way back. Lindgren makes negative sense. Already have 4 goalies, and 3 NHL caliber ones.

Hes 2 mil cheaper, hes younger, hes a top DFD in the league. Sorry but no, were not interested. If it was Graves instead of MP then sure, but MP is a lot more valuable to this team than Orlov would be.

Big no. Orlov's the better defenseman by way too large a margin. He makes 3 mill more, but he's just so much better than MP, and I like MP. MP's fine, but Orlov's a bona fide top pairing defenseman. He's two years older, but way more physical, strong in all three zones, and a dominant puck mover .
