That's not the recipe to acquire a new 1C.

Bonk, not Andrea

Forester, not Brink

Philly's pick, not Floridas

I don't think any of these deals would be accepted by the other team. Atkinson is a cap dump, hawks could just sign free agents to hit the floor or get paid to take bad contracts like they have been for the past 3 years. EDM can't afford to move Holloway as he's their best hope for a top 6 F prospect. The only way they move Campbell is if they retain at least $1.25M, and he's flipped with additional retention by the receiving team. Late 1st and Brink for Zegras is a lowball offer, they'll get something better. Don't think Risto is worth a 2nd and prospect either. Tough to evaluate with his injury history.

I think Atkinson is an interesting case, similar to a Taylor Hall situation. Overpaid guy with skill who is potentially a cap dump, Hawks take him for free so Bedard doesnt get mental boomed playing with enforcers. Theres an argument to be made that if Hall isnt gonna be full force after this knee injury, Atkinson could be a good replacement. Decent points last season, decent pace this season. Not a whole lot going on in the FA market this year outside of the top guys. Only guys I would target would be Vrana, Zucker or Eberle, that would potentially be available on a shorter term. If Davidson doesnt feel theyre available, Atkinson could be an interesting pickup, assuming Nazar spends a year in the minors, Tyler Johnson walks, and if we dont get Celebrini our 1st this year doesnt join the roster. Something to consider, at the least, I feel

I think your value is off. Your ask exceeds what Vegas paid for Eichel. Obviously I like Zegras but no way I’d ever go that excessive.

Spot on to how I was thinking. Think he could be a skill guy and some experience for Bedard or Macklin.

I don’t think anyone takes Campbell unless it includes Holloway. So not sure it happens anyway. I think Andrae is getting a little disrespected for the value he has as a prospect in the Ducks deal though. I don’t think Risto is what the Flyers need, but his metrics have been above average in the sheltered role he’s played, plus GMs still get hot and bothered for guys with his build. I am tired of hearing the Flyers expect a 1st though for him. Same with Laughton. Brieres just leaning on the media to try to drive up value.

Eichel:
17th OA prospect (Krebs)
18th OA young fwd (Tuch)
16th OA draft pick (Ostlund)
2nd rd draft pick

Giggy’s proposed:
22nd OA prospect (Bonk)
23rd OA prospect/young fwd (Foerster)
21st OA pick (PHI as of now)
2nd rd draft pick

I don’t think we can say that it’s paying more than VGK paid for Eichel. Also, Eichel was in need of a major surgery that hadn’t been done on an NHL player before, and refused to follow Buffalo’s recommended treatment plan. I think it’s fair to assume that both hurt Eichel’s value as well as Buffalo’s leverage in the trade

You might get a 2nd for Risto with 50% retained. Otherwise be prepared to trade him for nothing or pay to move him

What are you talking about?!? In the Eichel trade, in addition to Peyton Krebs (comparable to Foerster) and a middle-third first (as here), Buffalo got Alex Tuch, who had recorded 139 points in 249 NHL games with the Golden Knights. Even calling @GiggyWithGibby's proposal the same as the Eichel return is a demonstrable overstatement.

You're acting like Eichel was a healthy player in his prime that Buffalo elected to sell out of the goodness of their hearts to see him succeed elsewhere. Eichel had a reputation as a locker room cancer, a 7 figure contract, and a very public drawn out battle with his organization over a treatment course for a spinal issue which was seriously affecting his game at the time. Buffalo had lost any semblance of leverage and Vegas was taking a huge risk that Eichel wouldn't return to peak form.

TL: DR, using Eichel as a trade comparable is asinine because it ignores the context under which Eichel was traded.

You can try to talk yourself into that value for Zegras all you want, but there’s zero percent chance you get the return you think you should. Especially from Philly. Lol. Needs to work on the defense in his game and never cleared 65 points. Hes a 2C, not a superstar.

He put up back to back 60+ point seasons on his ELC, you know how short the list of centers who have done that since they were drafted after 2010 are? 13, that's is, and Eichel is among that list. So yeah, he's got star potential.

And acting like his defensive game is somehow his undoing, the guy is 22, not locked it to what he is. Eichel wasn't any good at defense in his early years either. Sure, he won't win any selkie votes probably ever, but to assume he's peaked already is dumb.

I see your point, but Atkinson is considerably older, i'm not sure how much gas he has left in the tank. I'd prefer a younger player with a bit more speed.
