Buying out Jack Campbell mid season does seem pretty optimistic...

I don't see Chicago using a retention spot for a couple of 4ths unless it's last minute and they can't make anything else happen

alright prospect, roster player who could be flipped again for picks, and likely 2nd's for a guy who doesn't fit their timeline although I see where your coming from. Whats your opinion on a fair return for boone

If CHI can't get something done at deadline then why not retain 1.5mil for the rest of the year, get a few free 4ths and a take a flyer on a guy bedard could spark back to the player he was before injury in WASH. If things don't work you can let him walk in as a UFA

Regarding the Tanev trade(as of 2020): A team can no longer include a condition in a trade that would send further compensation if a player is re-signed.

I'm not a huge Ceci fan, but I think the trade works for both sides without the 4th.

Likely 2nds? The condition on the 3rd -> 2nd is EDM making the final, so saying "likely" is definitely not true.

Either way, the picks being all the way out in 2026 significantly decreases their value and an okay prospect + Foegele + 2 late 2nds (best case) definitely doesn't get Columbus interested at all. Trying to dumb it down to Boone being "A guy who doesn't fit their timeline" is intellectually dishonest.

We probably just need to accept at this point that rational, intelligent people aren't creating proposals for Boone anymore. They know how to read the reports on his situation.

He's not available, as stated by the temporary GM, ownership, and Boone himself.

A fair return for Boone the player is a 1st and top prospect IMO. A realistic return given A) the insane market, B) his contract in the cap era, and C) how much the franchise doesn't want to move him: two 1sts, your top prospect, and a center prospect with a similar playstyle/ceiling as Boone. A "yeah we have to take that, that's stupid" kind of offer.

So, the issue is that there is no incentive to move Boone right now. An "alright prospect, roster player...and likely 2nd" for a guy who, once traded, they will almost immediately be in the market to replace. Bonne doesnt want to move, and management doesnt want to move him.

Boone is only getting moved for an absurd overpay. You're talking 2 1sts, a top prospect, etc. The type of package that would get a GM fired.
