Xhekaj have a very special value, even that he isn't a very talented player (because he is one of the best fighter in the league and his physical play as a young age). Montreal can easily set the price for a value who can be considered as a Top 10 pick....... and the fun part is like they will gonna have few teams who will gonna be ready to paid the price.

Unless the jackets can flip sprong for a premium pick like a first or early second I don’t see them having any interest in that trade. Doubt Oliver gets traded he’s been a good 4th line guy/protector for the young players and Elvis has been very good lately. Wouldn’t be opposed to moving him but they need to have a proven starting goalie locked up before they trade him

I slightly disagree, I think the value is there and we'd take it considering how much flexibility it would give us going forward. It doesn't make sense for roster construction, but it does make sense for total value and roster/cap freedom. Tarasov could finish the year and Husso/Tarasov could be the tandem until someone like Greaves takes the reigns.

Xhekaj is actually a talented player, it was his defensive decision making that Montreal was working so hard to correct. He skates well, got a rocket for a shot and handles the puck well in the offensive zone. His problem was he’d engage physically even when it put him out of positioning, he’d not make the smart pass in his zone when he was under pressure and he could be lured into untimely penalties. He’s been playing top 4 the last few games and all those weaknesses in his game have seemed to of vastly improved. He’s a late bloomer and obviously very coachable not to mention a physical freak. Mark my words, the Xhekaj brothers will be a mainstay in the Habs lineup by the time this rebuild is complete.

Sprong is a UFA. Tarasov and jet are completely unproven and tarry can’t stay healthy. Jackets wouldn’t even be saving that much cap in the short term and would be downgrading at goalie. Elvis contract isn’t that bad and will get better as the cap goes up. He’s got some mental issues but has been playing well behind an awful defense

Flip Sprong at this deadline (obviously) and yes we're downgrading at goalie, but Elvis already isn't the long-term answer given his age, and we don't need to compete this year. We've got all offseason and 650K extra next season and $5.4M the next two when Voronkov, Fantilli, Jenner, Jiricek, and potentially Mateychuk will all be due new deals.

Elvis and Husso aren't even all that far off. The difference this year is ~6 goals saved above expected. Elvis is having an average year and Husso is having a terrible year, he may bounce back the same way Elvis did from last season to this season.

There's not a wrong answer, I'm just looking at it as 2025-26 and beyond is the priority and you're looking at it like 2024-25 and beyond is the priority.

Then a deal absolutely positively will not happen. That's an absurd asking price for an undrafted bottom pair defender
