Knies for Nemec has to be a joke right? There's no way it isn't a joke

I’d say yeah as a Chicago fan, Raddysh has been cooked this season tho.

Then you aren't even in the right zip code. Try Knies for Holtz or Casey and maybe you'll be closer

Leafs don't have a need for another forward. Besides, Holtz has been a healthy scratch this season while Knies has been playing 1st line LW all year. In a couple of years he will grow into a top six power forward. Trading him for a young right handed defenceman makes the most sense.

Holtz has not been scratched once.

But you're right, Holtz plays with 4th liners, Knies plays exclusively with Marner/Nylander, and Matthews.

Holtz has more goals and just 2 fewer points despite not playing with 2 players with a combined 75+ goals and 150+ points

Hawks definitely take this, but don't underestimate how bad Liljigren is at defense too

Both will be great players. I just think Knies has more upside.

Pretty embarrassing for Knies that he’s been on the 1st line with superstars all year and only has 2 more points than a guy on the 4th line playing with much worse linemates

It's tougher for rookies to adjust to first line competition, going up against number one and number two defencemen every night. You can shelter younger guys better in the bottom six, which is where I think Knies should play. But Leafs lack depth.

I think his point production will get higher and higher in a couple of seasons.

He’s still not worth nearly as much as Nemec

What am I missing here?
Knies is playing on the Leafs first line, Nemec has been a healthy scratch (with Dougie on LTIR).
Nemec has up to 3.25 million in performance bonuses in his contract.
Given the circumstances, I fail to see why Nemec would be more valuable than Knies.
I'm not trying to be insulting, can someone explain to me what you all know that I don't?

Nemec plays RD, which is a valuable position and was a high draft pick. This year Nemec is averaging 0.40 points per game as a rookie defenceman. Knies is averaging 0.45 points per game playing on the 1st line with Matthews.

If you look at the numbers of Knies over the years he has not really lit it up at any level in his career (his best years in the minors (college and USHL) has been a point per game player, which is good but not phenomenal). So given his history and less than a half point per game playing on the Matthews line this year it actually seems kind of weird to me that some people think he is highly valuable. I really do not see how people could think he would be worth a RHD that was drafted 2nd overall.

I know that Knies was drafted 1 year earlier, but he was drafted at #57 while Nemec was #2 overall. Think about how you would feel if you were the fan of the team that traded their #2 overall pick straight up for a guy who was #57 overall the year before (and the guy at #57 has not put up great numbers)?

You make good points. Both are rookies, and while Nemec (as far as I know) has been playing sheltered minutes, Knies has played with seemingly everyone on every line this season. I understand your point about the draft picks, and the optics wouldn't be great, but Knies (the 2021 #57 pick) has scored at the same pace as Beniers (the 2021 #2 pick)

Nemec has been playing tough minutes 20 minutes a night with primary partners of Kevin Bahl and Jonas Siegenthaler.

Knies has played basically all of his minutes alongside Auston Matthews

Knies has scored at the same rate as Beniers this year (which is a worse year for Seattle than last year). But let's not forget that Beniers won the Calder last year by putting up pretty good numbers (24G and 33A) on a team that does not have Matthews, Marner or Nylnader to pad the stats. If Knies puts up number like Beniers' rookie year stats then maybe a Nemec for Knies trade is more reasonable. Until then it would not be a good trade one for one in my opinion.
