Love to see it, McManns success this season is not surprising in the slightest, and it's nice to see his hard work rewarded. He's done wonders for our bottom 6.

Excellent stuff

Happy to see him stick around.

Brad seems to like that 1.35M AAV for whatever reason.

For a team that's as cash strapped as the Leafs, I'm not sure it's such a good idea to give bottom six players seven-figure contracts, especially after only a single season. If he can't reproduce his success next season, then he eats $200k of valuable cap space while playing in the AHL.

Tertiary scoring playing well with grittiness and physicality. Pretty low cost for what he can bring.

Most games he is the hardest working player on his line or the team, that’s infectious and a great asset for the leafs

Fair contract. The length is good and has the potential to bring a lot of value with that AAV. Low risk for the team as contract can mostly be buried.

It honestly feels like great risk management to me:

- He has 11 points (8 goals) in his last 14 games (all at even strength).
- These 14 games are the first time his ATOI has been above 10 mins.
- He's a 6'2 / 220 aggressive forechecker with a solid defensive game.
- He's also a pending UFA despite rookie status (GM had no leverage).

Now he's locked up for 3 years (27-29) at $1,350,000.

Downside = $200,000 wasted (if he's in the minors).
Upside = $2,000,000 saved (if he's a great 3rd liner).
Both outcomes are possible (equally likely I'd think).

But the upside is 10X more valuable than the risk.

He's Toronto's Dakota Joshua.
Can Van extend him for less?
Can Van afford to keep him?

Perfect way of putting it.

I think his intangibles are very valuable to this team as well.

His attitude and work ethic are some of the best on the team, he has worked hard to get here and consistently works hard every game

The contract is for 2 years. At that cap hit he should have gotten 3 or 4 years.

2 years should have been $1.1 AAV, so it's a 200k overpay.

Wonder what Joshua will get with this out there. Same age, same play style, similar numbers, but Joshua has a longer track record of being an NHL player. He's atleast 2 AAV then right? 2.5AAV?
